What are you asking specifically?? are you in the reserve or are you considering it?? i was both active duty and reserve. I can tell you that there is a world of difference in the two in terms of organization, and order. It really depends largely on what type of unit that you are with..just to give you an example i was with 3 different units in the 3 years that i did reserve duty.the first was a destroyer squadron, dont expect to do much but sit in a classroom and hear lectures, you will seldom see a ship and may never do any sea time as a reservist..we spent our weekend sitting on our butts. The next unit was a cargo battalion. We actually trained and worked, did little ops where they called us an asked if we could go an a mission/operation for 2 weeks to unload cargo from container ships..this happened all the time, this was more of a high priority type unit and they also deployed to kuwait every couple of years..i missed the deployment becuase i transfered to a different unit.My last unit before i decided that the reserves was a waste of my time was a MIUW (mobile inshore undersea warefare) unit.mobile harbour surveilance.same deal here..yes they do deploy although only every 3 years or so.otherwise we spent our weekends sitting around or doing weapons qualifications or practicing our jobs that we did in the field. so you see there is a lot of diversity in what there is to do..you will most likely spend a lot of time doing nothing if you are assigned to a ship squadron.the medical jobs which ussually require prior experiance will keep you busy, the caro battalions, you will work your *** off, at least during your 2 week outings and the others i cant speak for..maybe if you could give more information on what type of unit you are looking at going into it would be more usefull in getting your specific questions answered..one more thing, you will get to travel even if its only 2 weeks out of the year if thats what your looking for...but the time and money that you spend driving to and from your unit.(i had anywhere from a 2-4 hour transit one way) you do not get reimbursed for and remember that you only get paid for 2 days on the weekends so you have to factor in the gas money that you are spending if you are not training locally.

I have been in the Naval Reserve for fourteen years, lots of experience to go with it.
I have been to Japan, Spain, Italy, and Kuwait. I have worked on ships, at ship maintenance units, in an ammunition handling units, and in a customs battalion.
Are you looking to join the Naval Reserve and want to know what it is like? I guess I would need a more specific question to answer.

I did it for awhile, I sorta wish I would have stayed in until I got a pension. Anyway sometimes it's hard to do, you're leaving work on friday and your co-workers are going to the beach sat but you have your drill to go to. So it takes up your time, there's travel by car and the 8 hrs you're there and your weekend is gone. If you're already working long hours at your job I would reconsider it.
