I don't know how many Nazi's were Catholic. I'm sure some were, or thought they were. Hitler was apparently raised Catholic but he did not follow the Catholic faith.
A little known fact is that 3 million Catholics were killed in concentration camps too. Many Catholics especially priests, were targeted by the Nazis. Pope Pius XII was actually one of the only high level person to speak out against the Nazis and yet he is being villified by haters of Catholicism. http://www.fisheaters.com/hitler.html
That Pope Pius XII saved 800,000 Jewish lives, hiding Jews in monasteries, convents, and inside the Vatican itself; that he got to the Jews money for travel; that he issued fake baptismal certificates so they could pass as Christian; that he was praised by Jews at the end of the war (by everyone from Golda Meir to the Communist Albert Einstein) as a "righteous gentile"; that his was called by the New York Times the only voice among the silence on the topic of the Jewish persecutions; that the Chief Rabbi of Rome was so impressed by this Pope's holiness and heroism toward his fellow Hebrews that he took his name when he converted to Catholicism.
Over 5 million Non-Jewish Victims were exterminated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. 3 million of those victims were Poles and Catholics. To learn more about non-Jewish victims check out a web site of interest at www.holocaustforgotten.com.

Here is a great book! One of the best books I have ever read...
http://www.amazon.com/Shadow-His-Wings-Gereon-Goldmann/dp/0898707749/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-6206195-9453258?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188373533&sr=8-1
Hitler kept a close eye on Priests because he did not trust them.. The Pope comes from Bavaria which is very Catholic and where Hitler's SS kept a close watch on Priests, recorded their homilies. Hitler was not Christian - he had his own religion if you will recall.
Also read about Alfred Delp SJ, a sad story..

The Nazis slaughtered many Catholic Polish people including Priests..

Some Nazis were brought up Catholic even Hitler.
But when they adopted the Nazi philosophy which is heretical to the Catholic Church they were automatically excommunicated.
Automatic excommunication happens when Catholics commit certain offensives. This happens as soon as the offense is committed.
Adolf Hitler committed the following offenses resulting in automatic excommunication:
- Apostasy - the formal renunciation of one's religion. Hitler specifically rejected the Catholic Church, as well as Christianity in general. He described himself as "a complete pagan.”
- Heresy - a doctrine in theology, religion, philosophy, or politics at variance with those of the Catholic Church. Nazism is definitely heretical to Christianity.
For Hitler's own words against Christianity, see: http://www.geocities.com/chiniquy/Hitler.html
For more information about excommunication, see: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05678a.htm

How a person was raised before Hitler came to power is one thing....but during the height of the National Socialist movement...they taught that the state was all and everything.
Look at the SS Troopers and Himler's (no, did not misspell Hitler) fascination with the occult, and the legends of Aryan super races.

why the question's are all way's revolve around Catholics?you don't ask the:Muslim's,protestant,Jewish and all the other denomination's.it is easy to bash a group that does not defend itself for every thing that is being done to it. did you know that the majority of Germans are protestant?look at the KGB,a lot of them belonged to the orthodox church.and what monstrosity did they commit! for your information,a lot of Catholics died in the concentration camp's.among those victim's were many of the clergy, monk's and nun's.

If they were, it would have been a surprise to the pope at the time.
The Vatican newspaper declared back in 1930, “belonging to the National Socialist Party of Hitler is irreconcilable with Catholic conscience.” The pope even suggested that Hitler himself was a manifestation of the anti-Christ.
I may not love the Catholic Church, but facts are facts, people.

The nazi party used religion as a tool to sway the people into believing as they did. If they were devout catholics do you honestly think that they would do what they did?

I think they thought they were. The death camps had signs out for the arriving Jews to see: "Because you killed Christ."
Sadly, Reformation teaching, too, led to a lot of this. Martin Luther hated Jews (see his writings). Replacement Theology has led to a laundry list of horrors.
P.S. Actually, though raised in a Catholic family, many of Hitler's writings say that he will wipe out religion. Then others seem to be pro-Catholic Church. The man was seriously deranged.
Some touchy Catholics out there today. We all need to remove the motes from our eyes, even you guys.
