Through treatment with a psychiatrist and medication you can recover from depression. I did. My depression has been in remission for 4 years now through medication and treatment with a psychiatrist.

There's a good book out called "Real Magic" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. He teaches you how to be happy, healthy, successful and prosperous in daily life through positive thinking and action. You may be able to get a few good ideas on how to overcome depression and become a better man. Good luck!

You just took the first step in becoming a better man by wanting to make that change from a boy to a man, so good job! This means that you are not in denial and you know you need to make changes and that is such a good thing. I've met men that are in their 30's that are mentally boys and I've also met 16 year olds that are wise beyond their years and are more of a man then guys in their 30's. It,s all about what you want in your life and where you want to go. Being a man is so much more then just having the male genes and all, and when you find your place in life you will know that you have become a man. As far as depression goes, I have no easy answer, life is hard on everyone you just need to get thru it one day at a time, and remember your gonna have good days and bad, when life gives you a lemon then make lemonade, just keep a positive attitude, thats what I do, and dont try to do something, just do it! Good Luck!

First I would ask you what ur opinion on anti depresents is. For years i was totally against it.. but then honestly.. it became too dangerous to not try it. Once i did... it was.. well very new experience to.. not feel sad, or bad about myself! Of course medication cant be the cure for depression. During this time you should try to reach logical frames for ways of thinking because during this time you wont feel much emotion. Once you feel you are ready you can come off the medicine and those frames of thinking have been imprinted into your mind already. This way of thinking will make you a better man. Be sure you are ready to come off before you do! Many people come off too early and then just fall down the dark road again.

But If you don't decide to chose to pick medication then it's all about cognitive thinking. I know it's hard to change the way you think, but anything can be done! So many people say "Oh i cant do this this is too much for me im to weak" but they arent they just give up too easily. I know it sounds corny but you can do anything when it comes to controlling the way your mind works, just takes a lot of effort, but i guarantee it's worth it.

I have suffered from depression/anxiety all my life. I am now 39 and still trying to figure it out. I have took pills, and by the way , of all the pills for depression I took, I never got or felt high...they just did not help. I quit taking all my meds...wellbutrin/lexapro which took a while because you have to wean off them. I realize that our thinking has so much to do with it, but not all of it. I cant go back to the doctor because he will want me on a pill....i did take therapy once when I had insurance, and it worked really well, but it is not like a good tool to help you on a daily basis. I have found that spiritual reading, and books on depression do help for short amounts of time. There is alot of good help on depression by changing the food we eat. You can search the food that helps depression on the web...i was really suprised how much better I felt by changing the food I ate.

First, look at positive side of live, some times it is hard to do that when we just want to look at the negative side, but ! live is about chooses that you make either it left you up or put down, even if we choose things that elevate us up we still have to sacrifice our valuable things. We have to know the way for happiness is the most important that keep us to enjoy living. To understand depression we have to understand what life is, if we misunderstand the meaning of life we going to face lot of problems and negativity, live is not easy even for a rich or a king, we all find problem that we can't fix them, the only solution we to learn how to perceive them and understand why! Let our sensitivity help us to understand not to judge other or ourselves. Just know that life is hard in all the way.

I got to go now, but try to be flexible to life.

You don't give much detail, so I have no idea how severe your depression is.

Go to a medical doctor and tell him or her you think you might be depressed.

The person who said "don't take pills you'll be high" is not entirely correct. I have taken Paxil for more than ten years and it doesn't make me "high." Some drugs can do that, but the medications typically given for simple depression generally aren't that strong.

try to think step by step and tackle your problems one by one.
try to improve your life step by step.

by the first week if you have done 1 thing to make yourself feel better and solved one ( even minor ) problem, your on your way up

hey btw - why dont you just take a night out, buy lots of vodka and sex - you know that might also help, as long as the next day you take some positive steps as well

Hey my main man Tim, Whats going man? We all get low points in our every day lifes. So don't be so hard on yourself. First don't compare your life with anyone elses. Medication I don't recommend, unless if you contact your doctor and he/she prescribes some. But I truely believe if you scale down your ways and make life more simple all things will correct themselves. If you have faith in a religion you may wish to speak with some clergy of a church or temple. Have faith and I wish you well Tim.
