i have a rabbit in the house and worry about my children getting sick from the smell of rabbit feces and poop

The smell is not the issue. Presence of the poop is.

If children get it on their hands/toys, then put that in their mouths, they could become quite ill.

You should either keep the rabbit confined to an easily cleanable area, or train him to use a litter box.

Hello? A simple solution is to clean that cage daily. Yes, any animal or human feces is bad, usually carrying not only smell but disease if not careful.

Just keep that cage spotless; clean daily, wash the cage with a safe solution and dry in the sun weekly. Or, if you live in a mild climate, put the rabbit in a good cage outside or in the garage instead.

Animals should NEVER be allowed to live in a childs room too.
