Is It Britains SAS and SBS, the USA's Navy Seals, Russian Spetsnaz, or Israeli, German, French special forces?

Id tend to go with the British SAS, probably followed by the Israeli and French Special Forces.

There was once an exercise SAS vrs Navy Seals - The Seals were told that on one of three night the SAS would try and get past them and to watch out - At the end of the third night the two forces met.

The officer in charge of the Navy Seals turned the the Captain of the SAS and said - "Very surprised, expected better from you limies - You could not be bothered to try and attack us - thought you were the best."

The SAS Captain (with his troops behind him) smiled and asked ALL the Navy Seals that were present to check their boots.

At the heel of each Navy Seal's boot (every one who had been on patrol that night INCLUDING the Officers) was a simple chalk cross that had been placed their in the night by an SAS soldier.

Not only are the SAS the best in the world - they also have style and class.

A lot would depend on the task expected of them
over all the SAS because they are able to think 'out side the box' if required
The israeli's are ok but stop work on a Friday evening
The Russians are perfect if Blind obidiance required
The French were brilliant against Green Peace in New zealand
The Seals ok if you are up against herrings

UKSF was formed in 1987 to draw together the Army's Special Air Service (SAS) and the Special Boat Squadron Royal Marines (SBS), which was renamed the Special Boat Service at the same time, into a unified command, based around the former Director SAS who as give the additional title of Director Special Forces. The Directorate has been expanded by the creation of the Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing, the Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Forces Support Group.

Some Special Forces operations, such as counter-terrorism actions, may be carried out domestically under certain circumstances. Special Forces units are typically composed of relatively small groups of highly-trained personnel equipped with specialist equipment and armament, operating under principles of self-sufficiency, stealth, speed, and close teamwork. Special Forces are sometimes considered a force multiplier, as when they train indigenous forces to fight guerrilla warfare.

UKSF or British SAS, which ever you want to call them, are the top dogs. I watch alot of the military channel and read alot of Special Operations Books on soldiers around the world.

the worlds armies special forces does not lie with just britain or the states or isreal. for me russias special forces would cream the as's of any other country. they fight long they fight hard and they fight very very dirty with limited resources. as's in the grass they fight to the last. but of all armies past and present the german waffen ss could not be matched even by todays armies. theres a famous battle towards the end of the 2nd world war where canadian paratroopers were hemmed in by junior ss troops. a full batallion was wiped out by a hand full of german kids some not old enough to shave. germany had nothing left to give but its children and they fought like seasoned veterans.

For French special forces see French Foreign Legion. Tuff people. When did the US ever have a successful rescue of hostages due to the military? Exactly. SAS are good. The Israelis inc. Mossad. The Russians manage to get most of the hostages killed. So, I would agree with your choice. Having noticed your name, I hope you aren't planning anything. Have you seen 'Munich' ? Good film. You might learn something.

The last time I was in Fort Bragg(1982) I noticed that even the guy who washed my socks wore a special forces T-shirt.

Theres a very good special forces unit in Afghanistan at the moment.
Lightly armed but very efficient they're inflicting heavy casualties on their enemy. They're called the Taliban. They're helped by the american air-force and their smart ARSED bombs

This is a tough question since "special forces" are of course highly specialized for one type of mission.

When those assets are used for their specific mission they tend to be highly successful. When they are taken out of that specific mission then they might or might not be successful.

The person who said US Special Forces are the worst is kidding himself, they represent some of the best in the world in terms of training, funding, resources, and equipment.
