Do us all a favour - look up the dictionary definition of brain-washing. You will discover that you have used this word out of context. Brain-washing is what happens to prisoners who are being tortured in order to change their thinking. Taking your children along to Church on a Sunday is educating them, helping them to think of things other than themselves and inculcating in them sound principles that will equip them to be decent, law-abiding and considerate adults.
Christians are told to bring their children up "in the training and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). It's for their eternal good. When they are mature enough to strike out on their own, they can choose to either accept or reject what their parents taught them as children.
I bless my parents for sharing their Christian values and beliefs with me as a child. Although I rejected their religion (on the basis that the theology was seriously flawed), I did not reject Christianity. I have my parents to thank for that.

All teaching is actually lying to children, both at school and church.
An atom is not a sphere, an atom is not a like a planet with electrons orbiting it, actually you will only understand what an atom is if you study degree level Chemistry or Physics.
But seeing as practically no one is going to be able to understand everything, and you don't need to understand everything, the over-simplified model will do, even for adults.
It's a lot more comforting to be told this is how it is, and then later find out the fine points if you want to, than to say: actually we are not sure about anything and technically this could all just be someone else's dream.
That said yes it is very easy to brainwash children for your own ends, and it's the parents' job to make sure their children are not abused in that way. And if the parent is doing the abusing, it's society's job to give that child a better home.

Its a form of child abuse.
If a child is sexually molested at a young age, there is a strong chance that it too will be attracted to strange sexual preferences, including children, in adulthood.
In the same way the church needing people to fund its activities - gets the children when they are young, in the hope that they will be willing supporters as adults. Its not as extreme as sexual abuse, they church has adopted many good activities that used to be installed by the parents. It teaches a moral code, a sense of social wrong and right, - in a way it encourages the parents to let them help. Of course it also installs the fear of death - it bribes with a wonderful play park if they are good, and hell if they are bad.
Its a great idea, because as you age, you get nervous of the unknown, and so return to the church as an insurance policy, thus keeping up the numbers of rent paying fools.
Its ironic that most of the perverts in this world learnt their ideas of 'grooming' their victims from the churches, indeed some of the worse offenders have (regrettably) hidden behind a dog collar.
There is serious talk about removing commercial adverts from children until they are past the age of 16. The religions of this world should be removed as well in my mind, until the child has developed mentally enought to make an informed choice on the rubish that it is being fed. However, there are too many radicals out there to evey get it past government.

Again, it goes back to the parents doesn't it?. I wasn't brainwashed by anything or anybody. I grew up in the middle of a city, tv off at 6 after the news. No mags no watching rubbish TV (rubbish TV wasn't actually around when I was a kid apart from SWAP Shop or TISWAS which I couldn't watch anyway!). It was out in the fresh air, helping mum and dad, or out as a family doing things. We didn't have any money so had to be creative with our time. My parents didn't let me be brainwashed - quite the opposite they taught me not to follow the crowd. If young minds are nurtured to be strong and independent by their PARENTS I think you will see a lot less trouble and violence. People need to taken responsibility - the victim mentality our society has is really quite depressing.

Because they've been brainwashed to do so. It's the reason that religion concentrates to heavily on children. Nationalism, which can be almost as harmful as religion, is also impressed on children at a young age.
But it is a parent's right to raise children as they wish. The problem comes when they also try to brainwash our children. There's been a lot of effort to get religion promoted by schools and government. If we don't want this, we should concentrate our efforts to try to educate people about other beliefs. They way, they might not be so hard-line about their own. And we should strive to keep religion out of our government and schools.

Why you are right. But it is not just on a Sunday is it? More takes place during the week, especially at school.
All that brainwashing about Darwin and Evolution and Big Bangs. No evidence, just theories and assumptions and probablys and perhaps's, might have beens - and has beens- and we all think it so you must too.
Glad that you too are against brain washing.
Free thought, reason and free choice. That's what we respect!

What about the lefty brainwashing they will get from their teachers and the BBC? Each country/culture has to pass on its own value system, otherwise you couldn't have a cohesive society.

Isn't it amazing how people can support abortion and then turn around and worry about what is happening to the kids on Sunday? These are the same people who call Christians hypocrites.
Whats this world coming to? Lord have mercy on us all !

Get'em when they're young and the possibilities are endless. Not to mention the previous generation always has some doubts in their faith, so... If you can breed new followers then you're doing good. Raise your kids to be blind and oblivious to the actual joys of freewill.
