I have a bad infection under a large tooth that will have to be extracted soon. It`s an absess-my dentisit has prescribed strong antibiotics to get rid of the infection-I have to take one 150mg capsule every 6 hours-which is ok-but what about through the night?
Does it matter if I take one a few hours late because i was asleep in the night time ?
Thanks.

The dentist doesn't expect you to wake up and take the tablet; although, the pain may well do that.

Don't Panic. As long as you spread the antibiotic throughout the day it doesn't really matter if it is a couple of hours late. Antibiotics stay in our system for approx 5 hours after taking them (depending on the antibiotic). The levels decrease over this time and then when you take another the level increases again. Yes the best time is to take it every 6 hours (usually 150mgs tablets are Clindamycin, for severe bony infections) but as long as you take it within 5 hours of the time you should, there will be no problem.

Just take the first one of the day with your breakfast and work your way through the 6 hour gap after that .
You wouldn't be expected to get up in the night to take this sort of medication
I hope you get the tooth sorted soon , I know from personal experience how painful this can be
Good Luck

Cant believe someone on here said they are an expert they quite clearly dont know what the hell they are talking about.
I am a Nurse and the usual Antibiotic the dentist would give you for an abcess is Amoxicillin which you would be given a course to take and finish.
This would normally mean you take one tablet 3-4 times a day for 5-7 days or untill the course is finished.
Note YOU MUST FINISH THE COURSE.
If you have any worries then please ring your GP or the
NHS HELPLINE ring directory enquiries for the no.
Please dont listen to to, too much mediacl advice from people pretending to know what they are talking about.
That is why i always tell people to ring their GP.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it's ok, just make sure it isn't too much past the 6 hours though.

Make sure you take vit. C (a natural infection fighter too) and don't take dairy with antibiotics. Also, eat some very good natural (no sugars) yogurt.

Once off the antibiotics, keep eating the yogurt and take some good probiotics because antibiotics ruin the natural
environment in your intestines that keep you healthy.

It would be ideal to take them 6 hours apart as they will work better,I wouldn't go longer than 8 hours as they will be going out of your system.

Just put one by the side of your bed with a glass of water and set the alarm, you will probably go straight back to sleep.

I am an expert on this. Just take one as usual but you do not have to count your sleep hours.
Have one before bed as normal (time it right to have a before pill 6-4 hours before bed) then one when you awake.
