The antibiotics she was prescribed was SEPTRA DS. She took all six tablets over 3 days like prescribed, but still is having off and on moments of fevers reaching temps of 101. She said that she is also getting headaches with these fevers and feels nauxious. We had a horrible experience with an idiot doctor in the ER (long story short...he told her that it was impossible for her to have a UTI because fever wasnt associated with that, then when urine sample came back positive for infection, had to back track on his words!). So we would prefer to not have to waste more money on seeing more idiot doctors unless absolutely necessary.

He's right usually you don't run a fever it sounds like she now has piloynephritis ( I know I am spelling it wrong ) or basically a Kidney infection. She needs to get back to the ER fast, if I am right she could end up even sicker and with kidney damage
She needs a cat scan of her kidneys

I'm susceptible to UTIs; I get at least one every summer. She has to keep drinking, as much as she can. Drink till she pukes if she has too (it flushes it out one way or another). Fever is not a usual symptom, so you might want to get her kidneys checked out, espeically if she suffers from pains in the back on either side during this. She should definately return to the doctor if she still has a fever. Many different types of bacteria can cause a UTI; she might be dealing with something really strong that could mean a hospital stay to flush it out completely.
At home, to take care of the pain, she should soak in a warm bath and (I know it sounds gross, but it works) urinate in the bath. Not forced, just let it go. During the UTI, she feels like she is urinating all the time, or needs to. The pain comes from trying to stop it, constantly constricting those muscles. The bath will help, and wearing a hygienic pad, so that she can just let the muscles go and not worry if she feels some urine escape (of course, she should change the pad whenever that happens so that it doesn't smell).

Don't go to the ER. Go to her gyno. If you don't have one, get one.

Afterwards, keep drinking water and cranberry juice (some people say this helps) or boil parsley and drink the tea that it makes (some people say THAT helps). See what works and go with it. I mean, if the cranberry juice works, she should be drinking it every day. Also, make sure her underwear is always really clean and wear panty liners; urinate after sex; make sure both of you are clean before sex; don't swim in untrustworthy places (natural lakes and public pools); don't overdo it in hot, humid weather.

She needs to see a different Doc. The antibiotic that she had taken may not have been the best one for her symptoms. There are many antibiotics available. The Septra DS may have kept some of her symptoms at bay, but didn't fight the bacteria completely. Based on her symptoms that you mentioned, she definitely needs medical attention, ASAP. Does she have any back pain?? A UTI can lead to a kidney infection and that is quite serious, even life-threatening. I hope that this helps and, I hope that she feels better soon !!

I'm going through this right now. I just took my last dose of Septra this morning. I'm still getting fevers and there's only mild improvement on bladder function. I've got a call in to my doctor's office. I'll update this when I find out what they say...

Edit: I finally got a call from my doctor's office. I get another 3 days of Septra. Have your wife call her doctor. It's possible she won't need to go in to see the doctor, but they might call in the prescription like they did with me. Good luck!

it must be recurrence of UTI she should take nitofurantoin one capsule 3 times daily as a urinary antiseptic and norfloxacin one tablet every 12 hours (antibiotic)
WARNING:
nitrofurantoin makes the color of the urine red so don't worry
norfloxacin shouldn't be taken by patient less than18 years old
these medications should be continued for 7 days then do urine analysis checking for pus cells

She seems to have had a lower UTI that has now traveld to a upper UTI and it has reached her kidneys. She needs to be admitted to the hospital for iv antibiotics like cipro until she is able to keep oral antibiotics down.

Good luck

You need to take her to another doctor. She may need a stronger antibiotic. I know you are hesitant, but she could suffer much worse problems if it continues.

Please try to get her into see a respected urologist. Ask for references from your friends and co-workers. Good luck. I hope she gets well soon.
