No matter how the Bible is analyzed, it is flawed. Strictly discussing only the New Testament, translators had complete discretion over content. If a story wasn’t complete, multiple stories were woven together to form one book. Pieces were moved around and put together like a puzzle. When a turn of a phrase seemed to even slightly disagree with the Church, it was removed in its entirety.
We now know that multiple scrolls of material, intended to be included as part of the Bible, were carefully hidden instead. This was necessary to avoid destruction of both the authors, and the information.
Scripted Codices, have slowly been discovered. They’ve been carbon dated and authenticated by experts to prove they were written at the same time the Bible was written. Numerous experts believe these writings were intended to be part of the original Bible. However, it is also true to say that these compositions are still the cause of great debate.
The New Testament was written two centuries after The Christ was crucified. Before the Bible was let loose to commoners, these powerful people had just simply raped it.
When one controls the religion of a people, they then control those people. This is why it was so important to make sure the Bible only told the stories approved of by the King and his Church. It also explains the hiding of certain texts. If anything written even smacks of freedom for the common man, it must be destroyed. For if it was found that the King was not god, the King could loose his ability to control his kingdom. As the translators were loyal to the King, the Bible was edited very carefully indeed.
Speaking only of the New Testament, the Bible remains one of the very best set of life instructions known to man. There is only one, most important law. It is: To love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might, and to love thy neighbor as you love yourself. If this Law is followed to the letter, it isn’t possible to break even one of the old Ten Commandments.
When Jesus was born, all prophecies from the Old Testament were fulfilled. The Old Testament passed away with the first coming of the Christ. The Ten Commandments were no longer relevant. This Commandment was the only one needed in order to not sin, and live as God wants man to live. This is what I believe, that is all. I do not expect anyone to agree with me.
Blessed Be

Hey Ant,
It's been a long time since I have been able to answer any of your questions. To understand the reason for the Bible you must first understand where it came from.
The Bible in and of itself was not physically written by God. The Bible was written by the prophets of God. Prophets are those who have a deep connection with the Lord and are chosen for reasons only known to God to carry on His messages.
The Bible is the inspired words of God written by prophets. What is a prophet? You have to understand what a prophet is also to understand this. A prophet is defined as an individual obligated with the responsibility of being a messenger from a Divine source with the purpose of initiating a social exchange. Think of it more as a history book and less like this all supernatural book that contains nothing but mysteries. The Bible tells a story, a very long story with a lot of valuable information. And, like all stories, it has a moral. Many, as a matter of fact. Who better to tell the most important stories than prophets of God?
Again, think of the Bible more as a history book with an important message and the truth will be revealed to you....

The Bible - at least the older Old Testament part, was first written down and compiled about 700BC from the oral traditions of a mostly illiterate people and a scant few written records and did not reach a finalised form consistent from one scroll to the next for a few hundred years after that. How can it be the "Word of God?"

The Bible is a collection of 66 books (with several more in Catholic versions) written by many men over hundreds of years. It contains stories told to explain our origins, history, poetry, wise sayings, prophesy, parables, and theology. It includes the words of good men and bad men, good angels and bad angels, but most importantly, it contains the words of God, as provided by the Word of God, Jesus Christ.
Since the Bible was not dictated by God (as is falsely claimed of the Koran), we have to read the Bible critically. For example, we have to reconcile texts that severely restricted activities on Saturday (the Sabbath) with the words and actions of Jesus Christ, who taught and healed on the Sabbath and explained that the Sabbath is made for man and not vice versa. This means that reading the Bible is not a simple task, and that we need the help of a vast community of Christian scholars who have been at this task for about 2000 years to get good answers.

The bible is a collection of stories written by people, some written hundreds of years after jesus died. Emperor Constantine decided which of many stories would be included in the bible. The stories not included in the bible are in a separate book called the apocryphal bible (these stories do not portray jesus in the same way as the holy bible and often do not portray his as special in any way). So no, these are not the words of god they are stories told and written by people.

Yes, written through humans hands. And since we are not perfect neither is the Bible 100% perfect. Emperor Constantine decided what books should make-up the Bible but many different prophets wrote the books years before.

yes I'm sure 'some' of the actual words of God have survived all the re-writings and re-translations that man has performed through the centuries on all the texts.....so as to be the words of god as filtered through man and his perceptions and interpretations and wordings.

Yes it is. The Bible is the Word of God. In another reference the Word of God is closely associated with Christ. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God. Try substituting that with in the beginning was Christ and Christ was with God and you will know what most of us Mormons know. God has never appeared to man except to introduce his Son.
