You make a good point if such so called churches do that.
Why might gambling be considered a sin?
Is it not essentially because it is seeking to obtain something apart from God's provision? -
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
And perhaps also it takes advantage of the loss or weakness of others and encourages greed and discontentment.
Do we have pension funds invested in the stock market? If so perhaps we are also guilty of gambling?
Is God not well able to supply and provide for those who trust Him? Why do we worry so much about our material things? -
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Who then really has faith?
Have you heard of George Muller of Bristol whose life demonstrated that God will supply all things simply in response to prayer? George Muller never let men know his needs but only his Heavenly Father.
What a tremendous example to us. Yet shouldn't we all be like this?
Which one of us then can condemn another?
Yet we are to judge righteously, that is to discern what is right and what is not.
Your question is therefore a good one. Do we really have faith or just something to quieten our conscience and make us feel better?

I think the gambling referred to is one in which money is gambled to the neglect of family life. For instance I dare not go into a slot machine place and put money in> Because I know that if I start I will spend every penny I have. If I go to the Church bingo i know i am helping with a good cause and the amount I can get is limited. I do not go to win i go to have a little fun. The church I go to supports in part anyway several missionaries in Africa and Pupa New Guinea. They do not just stand and preach they give practical assistance where needed and possible. Incidently my own church wil not run Bingo etc.

The Church of which I am a member never has Bingo, lottery or raffles....nor will it accept National Lottery money. But who am I to judge others until I am perfect?
Not all Churches do view gambling as sin....only 'excessive gambling'

Think about it!
This god, did he/she really say that? If so, why? It doesn`t make sense, but there again, nothing about religion makes sense but some people need something or someone to look up to and their gods fill those needs.
Most of the bible quotes anyway are from the minds of people who read the bible, re-wrote it, and inserted their own interpretations of it and when people later came to read that bible they thought it was god`s words. Or, if it didn`t read or sound good enough, they altered it so that it did. That went on throughout the whole of the bible.
One thing everyone should remember, ALL myths, legends become truth if they are told often enough because so much time has elapsed in an article appearing to someone reading hundreds of years later, there is no way they can prove it, but, to be more specific, there`s no way they can disprove it so it is taken as the truth because it would take a hundred years to sort it all out.
Why is so much of the `bible` credited to, for example: "According to......? Simply because ??? re-wrote it in his own words and his own interpretation of an idea or simple theory.
In a word - RUBBISH

It's a fund raiser, you go in knowing that the money goes towards a specific cause. You choose to play for the fun because you have already decided to give the money away.Therefor there is no risk of losing money. Sometimes theres a chance of winning a donated prize which just ads to the excitement. On the other hand gambling your money away goes to nothing except your own greed. There is also a risk involved, losing everything!

1. There are hypocrites in those churches.
2. The churches who DO that do not say gambling is a sin.
I am concerned about ME and MY honesty. What others do is their concern unless it affects me directly.
Consider what these people are doing with the money. Most often, they help others and give to mercy funds. The $$ goes to good use. So......

Our church refuses to participate in things of that nature..including..raffles..
chicken dinners.etc..etc..
But not for the reasons you state, but because the church should be self-supporting based upon the tithes each member should be giving to the Church.
I play the lotto occasionally, and it would be great to win it..there's lots of good things that can be done with money.
