Border Chief Carlos Carillo seems to have a problem understanding what his job is. He needs to be fired.

Tancredo is correct.

We should not have a person, as head of the U.S. Border Patrol, who does not have a clue as to what exactly the U.S. Border Patrol is.

>>
"The United States Department of Homeland Security, through the Directorate of Border and Transportation Security, has responsibility for securing our nation's borders. The Directorate of Border and Transportation Security -- or BTS -- also assumed the responsibility for enforcing our immigration laws through the creation of a new border enforcement agency.

During the creation of the new Department of Homeland Security, the U.S Border Patrol, along with the legacy-INS inspection division, the legacy-U.S. Customs inspection division, and the Department of Agriculture’s plant and animal inspection service were merged into a new agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, also known as CBP.

While the traditional mission of the Border Patrol has always been the detection and prevention of the illegal entry of aliens and smuggling of illegal contraband into the United States anywhere other than a designated port-of-entry, the dawn of the age of terrorism within our nation added a new priority mission: to detect and prevent the entry of terrorists and their weapons into the United States.

The Border Patrol never sleeps. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are doing everything possible with the resources available to them to secure the borders of the United States of America against the unknown.

Keeping America’s borders safe is a very dangerous assignment. More than 90 Border Patrol officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. Thousands have been wounded.

The Border Patrol’s mission has increased over the years. Today, the Border Patrol must also operate within the interior of United States — monitoring roads and even some airports where illegal aliens concentrate. In addition, other government agencies have granted the Border Patrol certain additional powers. "

Just because the Border Patrol now has added duty of "detect and prevent terrorist entry" does NOT mean that all the OTHER duties are thrown out with the dirty bathwater.

What is Carillos problem? He can't chew gum and walk at the same time.
Someone who is able to handle the ENTIRE job needs to be head of the US Border Patrol. Did Carrillo even graduate from high school?

It just goes back to the big problem and that is we need a fence. A double fence with razor wire on top. The border agents will be inside the fence in jeeps. This way they can shoot to kill anyone that happens to get over the first fence. This whole mess is not about drugs and terrorists, I think it is about some secret agreement between Bush and the North American Union. I think they have a plan to erase all the borders. If you live in California, New Mexico or Arizona, you may want to consider moving now while you have the chance.

The Border Patrol was organized long before we thought of any terrorist so don't understand why he would say that.
What does he think other countries border patrols do??? they check passports, cars, whatever...Seems like that chief needs to go back to Patrol 101 and retake the exam.

His department's job is to assure the security of the border, which they are doing admirably. The last time I checked. the border was still there and had not been stolen........ otherwise, they don't seem to be doing sh*t.

:-(

well terrorists didn't cause 9/11 anyway but if they did his job should be to catch terrorists first, why would americans rather catch illegals than terrorists? So they favour terrorists over illegals, that just shows the bigots who hate illegals also hate america

they are in violation of the law. they should be charged with treason. it figures they would let the illegals in, they are hispanic and feel they are helping their own. their own is American born and legal citizens of this country.
