The Red Cross is the only way to get an official notice to him.

But they may need more information than you seem to have (like his unit he is assigned to).

Go to the nearest Army recruiting station. Ask one of the recruiters to help you look your son up on the AKO WHITE PAGES -- most NCO's now have a AKO (Army Knowledge Online -- a sort of web based information and e-mail service) account. If he does, then you can get his current unit from AKO. The Recruiter may even know of a way to contact the unit directly.

God Bless you and your family at this difficult time.

Contact the Red Cross, as long as you know the unit he is with, they will find him. Don't expect much more than contact though, the military won't send you home on emergency leave for a grandparent unless that grandparent served as your guardian or something like that. Immediate family (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Spouse, or Child), is about the only thing you can get emergency leave for.

You need proof from the hospital that he will be removed on the 3rd. Then contact the red cross. All you need is his unit and maybe ssn. They will send a message to him. He should get it within 48 hrs, and get orders home that day or the next. I was sent home on emergency leave from Iraq. It took 3 days to get home from when I received the message.
Sorry for your loss. I am sure all our prayers are with you and your father.

contact the American Red Cross. You will need his full name, Social Security Number, the name of his Unit/Command and his last known location. You will also need to have the doctor's information so the ARC can contact them to verify. You should be able to contact the Rear Det of his Command to get some of this information.

Please be aware though, that he may not be permitted to come home. Only if grandparents were considered in loco parentis will the CO authorize Emergency Leave.

Contact the local chapter of the Red Cross. You should have your son's full name, date of birth, social security number if you know it and where he was stationed at prior to being deployed. The Red Cross is always the best way to get emergency information to a deployed miliary member and would need to be part of the chain to get him home on emergency leave. Please accept my condolences on your father's illness and my prayers will be with your family.

Contact the American Redcross ASAP.

Every hospital has a Red Cross Representative.

You may want to look in your Phone book for the local chapter.

The RC has access to contact military personnel in time of emergencies

Red Cross. The Red Cross will get the job done. They did a fantastic job getting me home for my Father-in-Laws hospitalization/death.

Call your local Red Cross and ask for the person there who helps with emergencies for military personnel. If you can provide even name and last duty station (but hopefully rank and Social Security number) then that person will do everything else for you. It is highly likely he could be granted emergency leave and allowed to come home for 2-3 weeks.

Wherever you are the UK or the USA call everyone. The local police, the salvation army, the red cross, the local tv station. your MP or senator. Even the police. Someone will know someone and wheels will move.

This is humanitarian and the more who know the better. If your bedridden or ill, can't move about to much (and it seems u might be somewhat restricted) call the neighbours.

Also their must be the Good Samaritan Group nearby and those guys know everybody / where to go / who to call
