Apprentice yourself to a local professional photographer. Your pay will be the knowledge you gain from working with him/her.
Check the New York Institute of Photography and enroll in their correspondence course.
If you don't already have a camera I suggest you consider a 35mm film camera with a 50mm lens. The Pentax K1000 is a classic beginners camera, as is the Canon FTb or the Minolta SRT-202. Be sure the Owner's Manual is included. You can find good deals on ebay or at KEH, B&H or Adorama. Your local camera store might have some 35mm film cameras also.
Read all the books you can find about photography. One I have on my bookshelf is "Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven. It was written when film was all there was but its still worth reading Chapters 1, 2, 3, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 & 19. Of course if you should decide to start with a film camera you can read the entire book.

Do what you like and get a four 12 months measure. Even when you just do first-class as a photographer it's well to have a four 12 months measure to fall again on. Often i am getting ask to instruct a category at an college. You have got to have a bachelor measure to instruct. Even when you simplest instruct a category for a laugh ones in a wile. In addition you'll reap the capabilities you have to run a triumphant studio. You want trade capabilities comparable to accounting, negotiating, agreement legislation, copyright legislation, advertising, negotiating, networking, as good as powerful laptop capabilities. Photography is without doubt one of the so much complex trade to get triumphant in. Some will do all right many will fail. A bachelor measure is a first-class factor to fall again to. If you moms and dads are serving to you to pay for it that's even higher. No higher funding to your long run than that. Be a photographer however be a sensible one.

Sorry to say, there really isn't much business to get into. Very few photographers actually get paid. Some who do are:
- wedding photographers
- photojournalists (including sports)
- portrait photographers
- commercial photographers
Everyone else has a day job. You might grab a copy of "Photographer's Market" from your library or Amazon.
The main thing is to believe in yourself and keep at it. Even if you don't get rich, it's a helluva lot of fun.
