All the previous answers are valid suggestions. DIficult to diagnose without seeing it. I would tend to agree that it sounds like a varicose vein that has burst, or possibly the start of an ulcer.
Being overweight exacerbates both these conditions, and I expect you are fed up with people telling you to do something about your weight, but you will feel so much better in yourself for all sorts of reasons.
Because you have this symptom on your leg, you are obviously paying more attention to this part of your body. Eventually, you will convince yourself you can feel all sorts of things there, so I would agree with everyone else that you see your Gp straight away. After all, it could well be just a bruise - I get them all the time from clumsy dog, boisterous children, furniture mysteriously moving from where I thought it was.... Easily done!

I think you should show it to a doctor just to put your mind at rest. It'll save you loads of worry and take 5 minutes of your time. It could just be a varicose vein - they make you itchy - and you've had it for a while so it's not just an ordinary bruise. Or it could be a little infection. If so, the doctor would give you something to clear it up quickly. Don't sit/lie there worrying about it. Get it sorted out NOW.

No offence, but it probably has to do with your weight. There's probably alot of pressure on your body and it could be causing high blood pressure which I was told can damage capillaries. This in turn can create bruises. This mightn't be true, so don't take it as gospel. Seriously though, your best bet is to go to the doctor. They're the only ones that know for sure.

if you have knocked yuorself & got the bruise, i wouldn't worry too much a bout it, it will fade in time & the tenderness will go down. I f however the bruise has appeared for no apparent reason, i would see a doctor as it might be something more serious. Good luck!
