I'm in the market for a car and the sites that say that they can help you find cars for like 90% off the retail value and yadda yadda yadda sound really good. the kind of thing i'm talking about is this: www.car-auction.com or www.seizecars.com or this site that lists the top 5 of em http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t=usedcar

so has anyone used these? Are they real? if they work i'm willing to drop some money for a subscription but only if i get alot of positive feedback. thanks for the help

If there was a way to get a vehicle for 90% off of the actual retail value, don't you think that the dealers (who do this for a living) would already be there buying everything? You may get a car for 10% of the book value, but the car will have problems.

For example, If you had to cars that were the same make model and year, and had the same mileage, the book value would be the exact same for both! If one car had transmission problems, it would of course be worth less than the one that does not!

If they both had book values of $2500, and the cost of replacing the transmission is $2300, the actual value of the vehicle needing repair is $200. You would be buying it for less than 10% of the book value, but you would not be getting a good deal!

These websites are a scam that just sell you lists of auctions!

Like the first poster above me, just go to the local federal, state, county auto auctions. Those sites you mentioned and many others like them only sell you information about where to look.

You should also try your local paper classified ads for upcoming local auctions.

They are for real, but they are just list of public auctions only. You will still have to go to the auction and have the winning bid. I suggest you just go to the closest auction to you and save the fee.
