when we changed our bathroom fitments to gold i decided to paint all the taps and sink fittings with gold hamerite paint yes you have guessed it they look old and tacky now a few months down the line
we have tried to remove it with paint stripper to no avail and scrapeing it off is ardious please can you offer any advice as we now have half metal and half hammerite taps looks lovely :( thanks for your advice and have a good bank holiday weekend jackie

Hammerite paint is in a Chlorinated Hydrocarbon solvent. It is sold as thinners for the paint. You might try getting it off with that.
BTW both Hammerite and the thinners are VERY bad for you. Make certain the area is VERY well ventilated.

I f you cannot afford to change the taps right now, maybe repainting them is the only option until you can afford new ones. If you don*t like the look of gold go with another color.
Maybe you should try The Works cleaner on them, I have (and several others I know) and it took the finish right off , even though I didnot want it to.

It's impossible to strip ... you need specialist chemicals to soften it first then wire wool etc ... to rub down.

It'll be a heck of a lot cheaper to buy and fit new taps and will look much better too as the stripping of the taps will damage them.

the whole idea of hammerite paint is that it wont come off...change the taps ..it less hassle

the only real remedy will to remove the taps and replace with new if you are intrested NETTO have some in this week complete with shower fittings only £29.99
