Great Yarmouth is good, nice beach, plenty to do. Southwold is also nice. Both are in East Anglia though. Not sure how long that would take you to get there.

Clacton-on-Sea is a nice beach with a lively pier and along the promenade is a harvester pub where you can sit outside and have a meal. There is also good shopping in the town and lots of amusement arcades.

Hunstanton. Its a lot nearer than Gt Yarmouth and personally I think much nicer. Depending where you are in Beds. but I would think by road about 2 hrs.
