I went to the doctor on friday to find out the results of a kidney xray. I found out that I had a kidney stone in my right and apparently I have an abnormality in the left kidney in the renal column (Bertin column or column of bertin). I realise this is probable quite a tough questions (i could not find much on the internet) but could anyone tell me:
1) what part of the kidney this is
2) what kind of issues or problems occur with this.

Thank you

The renal column (or Bertin column, or column of Bertin) is a medullary extension of the renal cortex in between the renal pyramids. It allows the cortex to be better anchored. Portions of the renal cortex extend into the spaces between adjacent pyramids to form renal columns.

Each column consists of lines of blood vessels and urinary tubes and a fibrous material.

This abnormality of yours in the left kidney might be due to renal cell carcinoma.

You should addressed that kidney stone in the right kidney. You shouldn't lose any time.

Hi , its better if you consult a doctor again for your doubts... The renal stone is causing problems in the renal column. It should not make difference to you where it is located... it is basically a stone which is damaging your kidney..
there are herbs like boerrhavia and chichorium intybus, phyllanthus, caper etc. which help in renal failure as well as renal stones... You can contact many herbal experts free of cost at www.planetayurveda.com if you want to ask anything

awwww :/ i know it must be very painful :(

i THINK(guessing here) the renal column is the tube which filtrates your blood.

if you have kidney stones, do u not have to go to hospital and get a lazer to get rid of them?

i have kidney/bladder infections and they say you need to drink alot more.

sorry if this was no help !

I would suggest that you go back to your doctor and ask him to clarify all this for you. If you feel that he's not approachable, then see another.
As for the earlier answer, I would have thought that asking medical questions the health/diseases and conditions section was entirely appropriate.
Good luck and i hope you feel better soon.

Why do people put medical questioms on here? Go to another doctor if yours does not answer them.
