Don't confuse Brits with Yanks Ken D.
I work as a male-au-pair in Jersey and it's the best job ever.
I'm taking care of two boys, 15 and 17. The only thing I have to do is driving them around and cooking dinner (plus grocery shopping). I only work 5 days a week. Weekdays are ALLWAYS off. I have sooo much time to spend will my friends.
On a hard day I work 2 hours. If you count driving and cooking as work :D
All of my au-pair friends work a lot more than I but most are very happy about their situation. I recommend you to be an au-pair in AMERICA. I have been warned about being an au-pair in England. The description Ken D gave you is about GB, not USA.
Ken D, I work in NEW Jersey (That is America and I thought that would be obvious since I was defending America, duh). Now go back drinking Tea and eat your disgusting food.
So let's break this down.
1 = "...work only 5 days a week because it is GB law. You can work more but your employer cannot legally force you."
America = You have to work every other Saturday but 2 weekends every month you have free (by law). Most au-pairs here don't work ANY weekends. Your hours are regulated by US law.
2 = "Work for a typical Yankee family and see if you get paid as well as you do now."
You get as much money as in the UK. The American Minimum Wage is the same as the British + living costs are lower here. = another point for US.
3 = "...one other point, to work in the UK, you have to be a "legal" worker..." & "...all employees have to prove their legibility to work."
Here too, You get a Visa for 13 months so you can even stay on vacation afterwards. The exact same tests are made to prove the au-pairs legibility in their Home-Country before they leave for America or the UK.
Last part of your post is just made up bullshit since you don't know jack about America you dumb Brit.
Ancica = The UK is ugly as hell, they Brits are too. Especially the guys.
Ken D = Maybe you should take history class when you get old enough and learn that the Brits themselves choose these names. The USA wasn't even founded so the settlers were still English, Scottish, German, Dutch, Swedish etc.
New Jersey and New York had other names before i.e. the Duke of York invaded this territory and changed the names. So I blame the Brits once again, proving you wrong. Once again it seems that you're the one who lacks a brain.
The fun part is that you only assume that I know nothing about geography. You are clueless about My knowledge in Any subject. You feed your thought with prejudice and don't have the intelligence to separate those from facts.
You Brits are so conservative, and frankly, I think you're even afraid of what's on the other side of the channel.
Have you ever even been to another country?
FYI. I've been to several cities in England and I hated it. Your country has nothing to give so take your soccer-hooligans and **** off.

It depends on what organization you go with.
Cultural Care Au Pair is a pretty good organization. You are supposed to work a max of 45 hours a week, with 10 hours a day, weekends off, you get almost 160 Dollars per week plus your own room in the familyhome.
Job description depends on what family you are going to. If you hav toddlers there's more playtime than with older kids going to school that you might have to pick up and drive places & help with homework.
I'd suggest requestiong brochures to look further into being an Au Pair.

You want an Invitation Letter from the loved ones in Texas, explaining that they're going to furnish accommodation, lodging and another crucial requisites to stick in USA so that you can convey to the US Embassy in Jakarta or the US Consulate in Surabaya in which you practice for the visa. You would additionally want an Affidavit Letter to help you from this host loved ones. I think, you additionally have to furnish go back price tag (reservations is OK now not the precise price tag), sufficient price range on your financial institution account, your Birth Certificate, your passport. Good good fortune. Salam.

You'll be treat like sh*t! The Yanks will expect you to work a seven (7) day week and at any hours that they demand of you. As a bonus, the man of the house will try to get into your knickers on a regular basis. Sometimes, his wife will try to share a bed with you as well. You will get no respect from the family, whatsoever and will never be appreciated.
Cazookie,YOU AMERICAN IDIOT! You are working in GB! Jersey is part of GB and you only work 5 days a week because it is GB law. You can work more but your employer cannot legally force you. So, you have been warned about working in GB? Then why the hell are you working in GB, if it's that bad? You can't compare the UK with the US. We, in the UK have strictly applied laws against unscrupulous employers. As for being an au-pair in Jersey, their laws are British Laws and Jersey is under GB Jurisdiction. Therefore, for you to be confused, you must be hoping to get into bed with the husband (man of the house). If you don't like working under GB legislation and think it is so bad, go back to the US and then come back with a comparison. Work for a typical Yankee family and see if you get paid as well as you do now. See if you get treated as well as you do now and see if you only work 5 days a week as you do now. One other point, to work in the UK, you have to be a "legal" worker and you have to be paid a "Minimum" legal wage, our laws are strict and all employees have to prove their legibility to work. In the US, they employ many Espanic, "illegal" workers, as Au-Pairs and pay them very little and treat them like dirt. Many teenage girls (13 years old and above) end up pregnant and being deported back to Mexico. Many women are raped by their employers but if they try to complain, they just get deported. Never trust a US Employer! Finally, What brain? You don't have a brain, if you did you would know a little bit of Geography. Jersey is a "Channel Island" and is part of GB. New Jersey is a Yankee state and they are so dumb that all their towns and city names are stolen from other countries as they don't have enough collective brain power to come up with original names eg: New York (York, UK), New Jersey (Jersey, UK), St Petersburg (St Petersburg, Russia), London (London, UK), Norwich (Norwich, UK) etc. etc. etc.
