What equipment would I need to obtain to get started? I am big into tattoos and have a bunch myself. I can get plenty of artwork for ideas to draw people but what do I need to do to get it started? I plan to pay my artists very well since I realize fat pockets keep employees happy. I am not greedy so this is a chance for us all to make good money.

Hey there, the metal angle guy seems to know a lot. Hire him as a consultant. Then shave the dog and practice on him. You could walk him around malls as advertisement.

Give me best answer since its always a good idea to keep the MIL happy!

I have witnessed scores of tattoo studios that failed because the owner was not a tattoo artist and did not get the support of the tattoo community, i.e., artists.

Before you even begin to think about this you need to have artists willing to work in your studio. Be sure this "small town" even allows a tattoo studio - you would be surprised how many don't. What do you consider "well" paid? Are you going to have them work as employees? Most will want independent contractor status.

You want to open a tattoo shop, but don't do them yourself? Not that it won't work, but it will be difficult. Reputable artists usually are big on ...reputation. Theres alot of respect that goes into the business. THat being said, some artists won't care and will just jump on board with anyone. So...check out your artists work, their history in shops, check around and see what people think. Their rep is now yours, and if people don't like them...etc. I cannot stress enough the importance of being clean. U, a state will mandate you be under some sort of Sterilization Monitoring Service. You send a spore strip through your cleaning device, (ultrasonic or autoclave) and they check to see if they're killed. Check with your local health department for who does that, what equipment you'll need, and licensing requirements. It's different for each state.
