Miele is the Best. It has really good filtration, suction its easy to use and more. If you want something that will cut down on the allergens there is only one true answer. Miele is the only truly HEPA certified vacuum cleaner, because you can put a HEPA filter on any vacuum but most just leak before the dirt even makes the HEPA filter so you are really just redistrubuting particles in your house. Don't believe me, check this out:

You can see from this video that the Miele will trap all of the particles in a cloth like bag that self seals on its way out and you are actually purifying the air in your house by vacuuming! The Miele Callisto has an awesome SEB 217 Powerhead and it will pick up your pet hair (the model above that is made to pick up even more!). It has the best edge cleaning ever. If you use this vacuum to pick up bird seed on a carpeted floor along the edges of your wall it will pick up ever piece guarantee it. You can use the powerhead on the bare floor which does a wonderful job. It has a squeegee underneath to really seal to the ground as well as all rubber wheels that will not scratch your floors. But if you want to use an even nicer tool it comes with an SBB 300-3 Floorbrush which is amazing. It has super wide holes all around and it will pick every up as well. it barely feels like you are pushing anything and it has a knuckle which allows you to twist and turn into and spot you want like behind the toilets, buffet table, couches and the floorbrush itself is low enough to get under the baseboards and kickjams. The filtration is 99.95% effective at 0.3 microns which is amazing. Thanks to its HEPA filter and super intensive clean bags the vacuum is able to achieve this kind of filtration.
I bought my Miele Callisto from Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew for only $699 with free shipping and no tax (because I do not live in new york). They were wonderful to deal with and they made my shopping experience a pleasant one. Here is their number (you have to call them up to get that price because that price can not be found anywhere on the Internet):

As mentioned in the first answer Dyson. But, I looked at value for my money and bought Eureka. I think many people believe the more it cost the better it is. My Eureka does what it supposed to do an it have all those fancy filters to do it. And there are other brands that just as good.

I would say that Electrolux is a bit better than a Dyson. Electrolux still makes it vacuums more durable by encasing them in metal rather than heavy duty plastic. Both have excellent motors and are bagless, they both have a LOT of suction and do an excellent job of removing most kinds of dust and hair from carpet.

That answer will depend on your budget. If you can go for the big bucks, you can't go wrong with a Dyson. But for around $200 you can get an excellent Eureka that does an excellent job.
