Recycle! Many places today, you just drop them in a box. Can do the same with Newspapers, Cell Phones, Computers, Motor Oil (Well the oil go in a barrel not a box) etc. etc.
awesomely_lame has a good answer. A thousand years from now, Archaeologists will dig them up and think they really found something! :-D

Batteries convert back into ores really quickly, since they're made of metals. Plastics are the things that last for ages...
