A mitral valve prolapse is not the same thing as a hole in the septum of the heart, so you need to be more certain which it is that ails you. A mild valve prolapse that is otherwise non-symptomatic is generally not going to be affected by a piercing, as long as it doesn't get infected. Your main concern would be with dental work, where there is a certain amount of bleeding in a bacterial and viral filled area. I hope this piercing will be in the fleshy parts of the nose and not the septum, which is cartilage- that would be a different animal entirely and a different risk level. You should also be having this prolapse monitored and checked on a yearly basis, regardless of it causing problems or not. And while you are at it, if you have a prolapse, you really should read up about it and ask questions of the doctor, so you clearly understand the risks you have and what you need to do to stay healthy and safe. Now, if you truly have a hole in the septum of your heart, you really should discuss the piercing thing with your cardiologist before doing anything. If you aren't sure which it is, then you really should find out. It's your heart, your health and your life you are talking about here. Not exactly subjects to trust to advice from the people on YA- where anyone and everyone, ninny and educated, can answer.

Having a hole in your Mitral valve prolapse or a PDA( patent ductus arteriosus- hole between the septum of the heart - has no relevance to any danger nor side effects to having your nose pierced. But why do you want to be earmarked? Only the aborigines and tribes in Africa have those.

You have to be very careful with infection or HIV from the use of non-sterilized needles.
