Tell me about a digital camera with 3 megapixels. Will it get the job done? Any tips for someone new to a digital camera to get started?

more than enough

Yes, it's absolutely big enough. If anything, it's too big!

Generally speaking for web displays, you only need about a display 640x480 (or 0.3 megapixels!) or 800 x 600 (about half a megapixel).

If you don't need the photos for archival purposes (like a family shot you want to keep forever), then shoot at the lowest resolution setting and at a medium to high compression in jpeg (on a typical camera this might be shown as "Normal" and "Basic").

Using the lowest resolution and high compression will give you small file sizes, more images on a memory card, and faster loading times (because of the smaller files) onto websites and for downloading for people to view.

Just don't forget to change the settings when you decide to use the camera for once in a lifetime memories! Otherwise, you'll end up with images that can only be printed at 2" x 3"

Have fun selling on eBay!

Ebay pictures aren't very high resolution, so your camera will be fine. Be sure to use enough light to show details (if any) of your Ebay item. Bright room or sunlight is better than flash, as that's often harsh and flat looking.

I've done it with 0.8 mega pixels. No problem. Decide which shots you want to use, load the disc in your computer and let EBay walk you through the process.
