See.. now in Australia Jesus forgot to come over here when he walked the earth to preach the way of the world according to himself... and nobody came near the place for oh... round about 1800 years... and even then.. it was the poms. So they had an English translation anyway... not like it was written in Italian .. so teh Romans part of the bible is prolly a poor translation of something recorded in hebrew or italian later from something someone once said in a crowded bar... .... never the less... there you have it... gentiles. That would be us.... all those years where the bible was never heard of.. indigenous people of Australia lived by there own ...and if they did .. according to that little bit of scripture.... they got a ticket to heaven.

‘Doing by nature the things of the law.’ This did not mean that, since there was no comprehensive law code against which to measure their conduct, men during that period between Adam and Moses were free from sin. At Romans 2:14, 15, Paul states: “For whenever people of the nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these people, although not having law, are a law to themselves. They are the very ones who demonstrate the matter of the law to be written in their hearts, while their conscience is bearing witness with them and, between their own thoughts, they are being accused or even excused.” Having been originally made in God’s image and likeness, man has a moral nature, which produces the faculty of conscience. Even imperfect, sinful men retain a measure of this, as Paul’s words indicate. (See CONSCIENCE.) Since law is basically a ‘rule of conduct,’ this moral nature operates in their hearts as a law. However, set over against this law of their moral nature is another inherited law, the ‘law of sin,’ which wars against righteous tendencies, making slaves of those who do not resist its dominance.—Ro 6:12; 7:22, 23.

You need to read the whole thing, not just one verse out of context. Basically what it says is that good men, who have no knowledge of the Law, but who follow the Law as it is written in their hearts, can be saved. IOW, they aren't automatically going to go to hell, just because they haven't heard of it. They are doing all of the things required of the Law anyway, so they are following it, even if they do not realize it. They are "a law unto themselves" only in the sense that they are following the Law without knowing what the Law actually is - and that will be taken into account when Christ comes again.

When Paul writes of the Law, he's referring to more than just dietary laws, etc. but to that part of the Law that we all still observe today - the Commandments, basic moral laws, etc. - what could be considered the moral part of the Law. He explains elsewhere that it's not necessary for Gentile converts to observe things that are mostly religious custom (dietary restrictions, circumcision, etc.)

NLT much easier to understand:

14 Even when Gentiles, who do not have God's written law, instinctively follow what the law says, they show that in their hearts they know right from wrong. 15 They demonstrate that God's law is written within them, for their own consciences either accuse them or tell them they are doing what is right. 16 The day will surely come when God, by Jesus Christ, will judge everyone's secret life. This is my message.

Paul was the apostle to gentiles (pagans). Jews believed in keeping 'The Law', in fact Judaism was built around the law.

Paul is writing a letter here to the church in Rome, made up not of Jews but of pagans. He's telling them it isn't necessary to follow the mosaic law in every detail, that they simply must do what they believe is right, follow their own consciences, and that's good enough.

(Mind you, this is at odds with what Jesus said! But Jesus was preaching to Jews.)

"Thus, the Jew sinned by failing to do what the law of Moses commanded him to do. The Gentile sinned by failing to do what his conscience told him to do. Both Jew and Gentile failed to live up to the light God had given. Both are condemned before God."

the wages of sin is death... for all have sinned & fallen short of the glory of God... which dying and living to be as Yeshua
it's by grace through faith - but by our fruits we are known.
Matthew 7:22 ;)

the good news - is that we have purpose - and we can KNOW what's next.. and the reason for reason. the point of life, from the bible, is to glorify & enjoy God. (think really hard about what that would truely mean)

No.
The promise of eternal life for the masses, is here on earth, not in heaven.
Somehow, tradition has been used to convince the majority, that everyone is going to heaven, yet, this idea completely ignores the fact that God created the earth with the purpose of having humans live here.

Read the next verse. It means that even though they have not been taught the law, it has been written in their hearts by God. This means that all humans know that its Bad to steal, to cheat, to kill. They all know. Their conscience bears witness to all that they do, and they know the difference between right and wrong, even without having been told.

As a Catholic i will inform you there is not any difference between white magic or black magic. the two are evil and the two are demonic even in spite of the indisputable fact that some magicians declare otherwise. All varieties of magic belong to the occult. Psychic readings belongs to the occult. those varieties of occult practises come from the capability of the devil and demons. they're all a sin against the 1st commandment.
