americorps volunteer position?

i'm going to begin an americorps volunteer position shortly, working through habitat for humanity. i was wondering if anybody else had a similar experience to share that might be helpful? especially if you used the position as a stepping stone to something bigger when your tour was done.

I worked for a non-profit, and we often kept the AmeriCorps volunteers on for a second year at full salary. We thought they were a valuable addition to our staff. I would definitely interview someone for a job if their resume had AmeriCorps on it.
