There is no dog that is 100% safe without a leash. In addition, most places have leash laws. You wouldn't want your dog to chase a cat and get hit by a car after all.
You can teach a dog to heel but that is too difficult for it to do all the time. You can definitely teach a dog to walk on a loose leash which is almost as comfortable for you as walking without a leash.
Some breeds, beagles for one, can follow their nose and run off. Other dogs, particularly unneutered males can go wandering off looking for a date.
Most other dogs, if they are bonded to you, will stay near you in places where they can be off leash. You are part of their pack and they will want to know where you are.

Lol, huskies are escape artists! While all dogs are different, I don't know any huskies that particularly like being fenced. It goes along with the breed.
Why do you want to walk your dog without a leash? Most places have leash laws now, and even the best dog trainers leash their dogs in town.
You can definitely train a husky to heel and stay by your side, but this is an obedience behavior and I don't think I'd ever rely on it 100% with certain breeds (sighthounds, for example). Leashes are an extra precaution, although you can train your dog to walk on a loose leash so that the leash isn't used to control the dog, just as a safety net.

I would say this is a behavioral and training issue. A lot of dogs will run away off leash. Most dogs just won't stay by your side all the time. Try obedience training and your dog will learn to "heel" and stay by your left side at all times. It takes a lot of work, but its worth it in the end. Make sure you male of female is fixed and that may help with running away problems. A lot of dogs will run away if they want to breed, or some just like digging and chasing after things. I really can't recommend any specific breed that will be perfect b/c there aren't any that are perfect and obedient.

Huskies were made to run all day and roam. They are escape artists by nature.
Walking a dog without a leash is dangerous though. Even if well trained, it may get excited about something and run off or another dog comes running over and both run off.
No matter the breed, you will have to train the dog to stay at your side.

In my experience, no Husky is just going to stay by your side. Wrong breed to expect that. However, there is NO breed that will just stay by your side without a leash. You get that kind of obedience from training your dog, not from breeding. I would suggest you keep your dogs safe and on a leash and investigate some formal training before you let another one off leash.

Let's see...
A trained dog?
A neutered dog?
Combination of the above?
Potentially any dog and potentially no dog?
It all depends on their personality too, but also on the possibility they have to escape.
Anyway, huskys do tend to run away, so probably get another type of dog, train him, but also remember that the fence must have a small foundation of concrete and no holes.

initiate education the bear in mind. call the dogs to you, and reward with a manage whilst he comes. call him at random situations, whilst he's busy someplace else. quickly he will learn that if he comes whilst called, he gets sturdy stuff. As for once you're no longer there, the only element you're able to do is keep him on a secure line, a fence he can;t bounce or dig, or a outdoor kennel. Or, keep him interior the residing house and pass exterior in basic terms on a leash

The odd Husky... I only say that because it's rare that you can find a Husky that won't take off on you, but they, like humans, are different.
Neutering it will have no effect on whether or not it takes off. Huskies were bred to run and run. It's just what they do and are very good at it.

The type of husky that won't run away is one that is excellently trained.
Huskies can be difficult dogs to convince they should oblige to your wishes.
To train ANY dog to walk off leash at your side you must be a very good trainer.

A fixed, trained, dog. It is in most dogs natures to expand their territory. Especially if they aren't getting enough stimulation and exercise. I would suggest a more timid breed, whose fear and shyness might keep them in their comfort zone.
