I would say that there is a 99.9% chance that your antenna cable came unplugged from your radio. It probably wasn't plugged in good to begin with after the install and once you started driving, the rattling and vibration made it come apart. Pull the radio out and check to make sure the antenna cable is plugged in to your radio.

HI

Unfortunately it is not always as simple as new antennas etc.

There could be several problems that can caust this type of fault.

On VAG Cars the antenna has a powered amplifier system at the base of the antenna, this is powered from the standard head unit using the antenna central core to supply the 12V, if you fit an aftermarket head unit this 12V is not present so an interface is needed to supply the 12V otherwise there will be a weak signal.

Also the antenna connectots sometimes become damaged, not always visable though from them being removed and inserted. generally the centre core comes loose. this would need a complete new cable

Also try the mast, sometimes these can be damaged in car washes etc, if this is removable then remove it and use the good old coat hanger method to check. if it improves the signal then purchase a new mast, preferable from the main dealer as they will be most compatable with the base.

If the car has one of those silly little metal antennas then forget it, they are useless and only really for show, try replacing this with a proper antenna.

Unless there is a problem with the deck(cd/tuner) you may have the constant 12 volt battery lead and the ignition lead hooked up wrong (opposite). If you can turn on the stereo without the key in the ignition this is probably it.

Have you got the RDS function switched on? If you have it will only tune to the stations that transmit RDS with a strong signal, regardless of what you have preset

That sounds like my peugeot 307 - I never got to the bottom of it - I got rid of the car soon after.
