Going to the gym is a great idea. Just try and limit your exercises to body weight exercises like dips, push ups, pull ups...If you must use weights only lift very light weights until you are about 16 or 17, then you can start to lift heavier weights. Right now you should concentrate more on how you do the exercise, not how much you can lift. Always use proper form when you train. Don't worry about the guys in the gym beside you using bad form to lift heavier weights. In a few years they will have joint problems but you won't if you are smart. I guarantee you these guys who try to lift heavy using crappy form will look the same way next year as they do today. But if you train smart, you'll make good gains even if you only use light weights.

definetly! it would be great if more young people started resistance training at an early age. make sure to train all body parts to keep your body in balance. when people neglect body parts muscle imbalances are created which make various parts of the body prone to injury (such as too much ab work and not enough lower back). focus on the basics and learning how to master compound exercises. never substitute weight for form, with resistance training injury occurs as the result of improper form not from using heavy weights.
