I am not a Satanist, and, I accept any corrections in the case of misrepresentation of Belifs/ Practices of Satanists...

I wouldn't say all Satanists include maigick as the part of their practice.

Beliefs: Some Satanists I know believe in the power of Self. Meaning, one is not in need of a God/ Devil for any means of guidance and a person is responsible for their own actions.
(For some) There is no God or Devil figure. What you do is expression of you.
I have yet to meet a Satanist who actually has a concept of 'worshiping' the Devil.
As with any practitioner of magick, for those who include such practice it is the reflection of the practiotioner's will.

There have been allot of allegations of Satanists for doing criminal actions - hurting children, and other... as far as I know none of the cases including 'Satanic Hysteria' have been proven as a fact.

Along with Pagans (who are not even Christian and don't hold the belief in the ultimate good nor ultimate evil - polarity being the case in Christianity), Satanists are often accused of most ridiculous things - 'worshiping the Devil', 'being against God', Sacrificing humans, hurting children etc.

Several Satanists that I do know tend to be great friends, and wonderful human beings... of course.. you cannot lump all in one pot.

Every individual is different. There are hateful people of any religions...

Did my best, welcome all the corrections.

To the answerer above: Pagans don't worship 'supernatural' beings - Pagans who follow certain Gods find them to be as real as Jesus may be to a Christian. Needed to correct that bit.

There are many reasons for performing rituals and practicing magic, belief in God or the devil isn't usually one of them.

There are a lot of beliefs that can fall under the heading of Satanism. Some worship or venerate themselves as the only authority or deity they want or need in their lives. Some worship Set, an Egyptian deity. And yes, actually there are some people that most Pagans would call "devil worshipers" those who are basically Christians, but on the side of the Christian devil, who actually do prefer to call themselves Satanists. And there are Satanists who are also Atheists or Agnostics.

Ritual is usually used to create a state of mind where the participants are able to achieve a heightened sense of awareness and concentration. All of the participants are able to concentrate as a group on very specific thoughts, ideas and imagery.

Magic is used to effect change in the spirit and regular worlds. In either yourself or the world around you.

Both of these are used by lots of different people. Some are Satanists, some are Wiccan, some Astru, and some aren't either.

There are actually a number of different forms of belief that all fall under the umbrella term "Satanism". These include Laveyan Satanism (Founded by Anton LaVey, who wrote "The Satanic Bible), Luciferianism, Setianism, etc.

First off, realize that some satanic groups do worship Satan as a deity, but the majority are essentially atheistic, but do hold Satan/Lucifer as a symbol of the virtues they believe in. For example, they see the serpent in Eden as essentially the light-bringer, who essentially set us free from the tyranny of God's mental and emotional control and allowed us to think for ourselves and excerise free will. They follow the left-hand path which basically is the morality of personal survival - which basically boils down to, "I do what's best for me, and help others only insofar as it aids me" Essentially they are denying a greater good, compassion and the like as nebulous, abstract ideas and regard biology, instinct and self-preservation as the only valid measures of morality.

As to the ritual and magic. Many satanists are humanists or post-humanists, and while they are generally atheistic, many DO believe in human potential, psychic phenomena and the like. Ritual in all traditions is a means of focussing the mind and communicating with your more subconscious aspects through symbols, and they use these as a means of taking their own evolution in hand.

And Finally, for those people who still insist on lumping Satanists and Wiccans together - the two groups could not be more different, IMHO. They may draw from the same traditions as fas as magic and ritual go, but whereas the Left-Hand Path guides satanists, Wiccans are the exact opposite. They believe in compassion, respect for others and for nature, reverence of life etc. They believe in higher good, kindness and the spirit. To a satanist, we're all basically just meat, and the earth a resource.

But, Satan is the Devil. They are one in the same so I would guess they do believe in him. I'm also going to assume that they believe God exists, but choose not to worship him just like Christians believe both the Devil and God exist, but choose to worship God. And I'm not sure I get your question. What does magic and rituals have to do with Satanists not choosing to follow God. Am I missing something? Oh well!

I've continually inspiration that Satanism used to be created as an "Anti-Christianity." As a strategy to insurgent towards mainstream tradition and scare humans (use of pentacles and 666, each tabo sybmols in Christianity, but by no means hooked up earlier than). I feel in view that then it is been reformed or divided. I as soon as noticed this "Satanist" girl at the information being interviewed on her faith, and he or she mentioned it used to be approximately "having fun with existence considering the fact that there may be not anything after demise."

I am a pagan atheist, weird huh? But I know alot of Witches (by many names) and quite a few Satanists.

The Satanists I know do not do ritual or spells...they are quite simply hedonists. They do what brings them pleasure without thought of consequence.

I do not believe in God or Satan but I do rituals and spells....why? They help me to focus my mind and my energy.
Notice I said focus...if you study Wicca you will understand that the tools and spells used all eventually equal mental focus.

Try studying some basic English.

-ist is a suffix designating a follower of or a worshiper of
-Satan is one name of the devil

Therefor basic English tells us that a Satanist is a follower of or a worshiper of the devil under his name Satan.

A quote from www.churchofsatan.com

"As you gaze at the flame, say in your mind or out loud, "I am ready, oh, Dark Lord. I feel your strength within me and wish to honor you in my life. I am one of the Devil's Own. Hail Satan!"

The rituals are a form of psychodrama. That is, the 'magic' is not a mystical force but rather the use of self-communication with the subconscious mind.

Marie:

Correction -- Most Satanists do not believe in angels or devils, they don't even believe in Satan.

The rituals/magic would be ways of expressing themselves, metaphors for their hedonism and soforth. Satan is a symbol to represent following one's desires, seeking pleasure, and rejecting the establishment (Christianity).
