I have dyed my hair countless of times. I've gone to blonde from dyed black, brown, and burgundy. Recently I've gone blonde from dyed black without problems. I do it myself because sometimes hair dressers don't do it properly or do the way I want (they always highlight my hair from black and gradually go lighter after several appointments). Of course, in general, hair dressers should know what they're doing.

If you're doing this yourself, first of all, the only way to go blonde without orange undertones is to use a gentle color remover if you have previously colored hair. On virgin hair it's much easier to dye. I am faithful to Color Fix, a hair color remover that works with permanent and some semi- or demi-permanent colors. It has no bleach in it.

After several rounds of color removal, depending on how much your hair has lightened from Color Fix, skip the processing lotion, and your hair might be quite orange, which is normal after this process.

Then you can use a bleach kit of your choice (I prefer either Wella Wellite or Clairol Born Blonde lightener). Lighten your hair to desired shade of blonde but it might end up a little brassy and may not be able to reach all way to pale yellow (like inside the banana), nonetheless. The only way to reduce slight brassiness after lightening your hair is to use a toner. A toner that has blue-violet base to cancel out the brassiness. Voila! You're blonde.

Make sure you are confident to do this and enlist a friend to help you. Otherwise, better to stop by a hair salon and let a hairdresser do all of the work for you and to save your time. You will go blonde eventually after a while.

if you want to do it yourself:
go to sally beauty supply (or any other beauty supply) i jsut know what sally sells....
get a bleach powder called "kaleidacolors" and its in a blueish purple package for cool tones
then
get cream developer in volume 40
dependign on you hair length .. you may need a few packets of bleach .... i would suggest 2 packets for chin length... just past shoulder length- prob 4
there are directions on the package.. i think it is one package and 4 oz of developer but im not sure on that.... cant remember
mix it together in a plastic bowl and use a hair dye brush .... "paint it" on your hair until all your hair is covered.... let it set about 15-20 min (maybe longer) till you see it turning blond....
rinse and shampoo out then condition....
you do NOT want to get a regular store bleaching kit becasue they uususally use basic bleach and about a 30 developer... a basic bleach will jsut strip the color you have but leave the same tint... so if your hair is reddish it will be a reddish blond color...... but the blue bleach puts a cool tone and strips out the orageny color.
Also.... bleach breaks your hair and makes it really dry so make sure you want to do this....
if you are not cofortable with doing this go to a salon to get it fixed....
once you bleach your hair is fragile.. if you still dont like it and want to re- dye/ bleach it... it can reallllly damage your hair.. just something to think about. If you are hesitant about getting it right go to a salon

whatever you do have it done professionally done its okay to do it yourself if you are going darker but going from that dark to that light defiantly didn't do it yourself. If you really don't have the money go to a salon store and there is this purple stuff you can buy to add to the hair dye that is suppose to help make it not turn orange. Don't remember the name but they will be able to tell you what it is. I would defiantly recommend to have someone do it professionally. Hope this helps.

Hairdressers spend a lot of time (and your money) fixing hair when people try to double-dye and bleach it by themselves. Go to a pro, otherwise, you'll be miserable and your hair will be damaged.
