for ... everrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...LOL
i heard a pastor once that said he was a heavy drug user before he became a christian ...one time he OD'd ...and woke up in hell.
he was in a completely confined very dark ...very hot space ...trapped and miserable beyond description.
the reason i bring it up is because he also said he had the sensation that there was no past ...and no future ...only now...forever.
well ...they revived him ...he dodged that bullet.
...but that very scarey very real experience made him start thinking...which led him to go to church one sunday ...even though he was high as a kite and didnt belive in God.
...long story short ...he's a preacher often seen on TBN christian tv network ...larry huch is his name ...he has a church called New Beginnings in dallas texas.
he preaches that hell is very real...from first hand experience.
...in the bible it says that Jesus died a horrible death on a cross to take our punishment ...so that we dont have to go to hell.
the bible says further that we are all sinners ...if a person lies ...he is a sinner ..if a person lusts ...she is a sinner ..if a person breaks any one of Gods rules ...they are a sinner.
the bible states that absolutely no sinners will be allowed into heaven ...and will go instead to hell ...for eternity.
but ...the bible also says that ...if a person is honest enough to admit that they are a sinner ...and asks God to forgive them ...and asks Jesus to come into their life to protect them.
...then he will gladly do it...
honest curiosity is the key ...larry huch was curious ...he walked into that church and challenged God to prove that he existed ...and he got an answer...
God does the same for everyone ...not just larry huch ...God did it for me ...and i was never a drug addict ...
ask God yourself ...and i guarantee he will answer you ...if he exists ...he can do it ...
if you ask God's forgiveness and honestly ask His help to live up to the Lords prayer ...i guarantee ...you will be amazed ...you will change in ways you never would have imagined ...for the rest of your life. ...and you will see heaven when the time comes....for eternityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy LOL
God bless you.

Very good question.
And the simplistic "Eternity is now"
is somewhat true...because "Eternity is now" in God,
but not for us still on earth, because we live in the passage of time.
Catholic belief is that God IS eternal (He had no beginning, and He will always exist).
The All-Holy Trinity does not exist in "Time" as we do. Time came into existence as a result of disobedience of our first ancestors, Adam and Eve.
Past, Present and Future (as we know it) are always Present to God. We say that (even though our human language is insufficient to explain the mysteries of God), God IS in eternity.
There IS no passage of time in "eternity". Therefore, the question "how long" (which presupposes a passage of time) does not apply to the concept of eternity.

You will have a hard time comprehending the infinite with a finite mind. Just to get a small drop of it, imagine a tiny humming bird picking up one grain of sand and flying it to the moon at his regular rate of speed and then flying back to earth to pick up another, and doing this one grain at a time until all the sand on the earth is on the moon, you know how far the moon is from earth and if you have ever been to the beach and just pick up one hand full of sand you know there are thousands maybe millions of single grains in one hand full. Now imagine how long this would take, and that is not even a drop in eternity.

Eternity is as long as Chuck Norris is able to kick ***. (seriously though, eternity cannot be assigned a value. Like infinity in maths.)

Let's say you live in a house that out of your front window you can see a large rock, approximately 8 feet tall, 10 feet wide and 20 feet long. Well, along comes a bird once every hundred years and scrapes it's beak on the rock to clean it off after eating. Well, after coming once every hundred years that bird turns that large rock into a pile of sand, that will be like the first day.

The endless now. You are in it. Eternity has nothing to do with time. This is it!
