Well there actually is a book called The God Gene written by Dean Hamer. This book is not about Christianity. What the author discovered in his studies was that individuals who express a certain gene more than others tend to be more spiritual. The name of the gene is VMAT2. I cannot remember exact details, but it is a very fascinating hypothesis.
I don't understand why God would allow this, but even in this book it was not solid. Those who did not express this gene in the same manner as those who were spiritual were not necessarily atheist. And vice versa. Science is never exact. It may lead to an advantage, but we all have free will. They don't fall in line because of free will. Mostly atheists want physical proof. That diminishes faith, which is a concept many of them struggle with.

It might be related to genetics and problems in the function of the front temporal lobes but honestly doubt if it is as simple as a "God Gene."
So far that hypothesis has not been tested either. I think there are more likely explanations in Linguistics and Psychology.
I really wish it was a genetic shift and that selection favored atheism. I can not even imagine how that could be measured.
Maybe the genetics are more related to individualistic behaviors. Atheist beliefs are recorded back into the time of the ancient Greek philosophers and there is no reason to suspect it was new or revolutionary then.

Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods[1] or rejects theism.[2] When defined more broadly, atheism is the absence of belief in deities,[3] alternatively called nontheism.[4] Although atheists are commonly assumed to be irreligious, some religions have been characterized as atheistic because of their lack of belief in a personal god.[citation needed]
Many self-described atheists are skeptical of all supernatural beings and cite a lack of empirical evidence for the existence of deities. Others argue for atheism on philosophical, social or historical grounds. Although many self-described atheists tend toward secular philosophies such as humanism[5] and naturalism,[6] there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.[7]
The term atheism originated as a pejorative epithet applied to any person or belief in conflict with established religion.[8] With the spread of freethought, scientific skepticism, and criticism of religion, the term began to gather a more specific meaning and was sometimes used as a self-description by atheists.
says nothing about aligning are selves against god, we just dont believe him or the devil or any other supernatural being people from the past concocted to understand things they can't explain , but problem with religious people (not all of them) they must as always judge us as bad people. they can;t accepted we have are opinion and respect that. if there was god he would not care if we did not believe him as long as we are a good person because a god which by all definition could create things from thought, would be above such petty feelings and thoughts.

Your question assumes the existence of a "God gene". To my knowledge, no such equivalence exists in our DNA. We are, however, all free agents in a world of full of good and evil (my answer assumes the existence of evil as I understand it). We do not "fall in line" as you suggested...it's a conscious decision for a better way followed up by a commitment to the One who showed us the only way. The decision for Christ must be of a free-willed mind or it means nothing at all. Most of the reasons atheists and the like refuse to consider this path are borne of pride and a refusal to admit culpability in their own fallen nature...although they will most likely say it is because of their superior intelligence and an utter disdain for Christianity and the foolish morons who follow it. There is a built in contempt for Christians on the part of most atheists, as evidenced by many of the comments you see in this forum. I believe, however, that they are good people for the most part...just unwilling to consider what Christianity is really all about.

Wow, now you Christians "invented" the "God Gene"...?
Have you ever considered the fact that we don't need a God to rely on, to tell us what to do, to tell us what's right and what's wrong and that we're good enough people without it? We have risen above this nonsense and can think for ourselves and have accepted life for what it is. We intend to enjoy it to it's fullest instead of demeaning the value and existence of life as it is....the only Heaven you'll ever find is the one of Earth and if you cannot see that I pity you...

Well, if morbid obesity can be caused by a virus (honest - I heard it on the news), then I suppose there could be a gene for accepting God.
Don't see that - but whatever.
At 1:30 in the morning, I am not thinking with all brain cells, so take me with a grain of salt.

do you have some evidence that your god exists?
No?
I didn't think so
That's why I'm an atheist
If you cannot prove your god exists I have no reason to believe it does.
To try and understand an atheist change the word god to The toothfairy or Thor and apply it to yourself and see how you feel being asked such questions

This is brilliant. I love this question "There is no God but God and Mohammed is his messenger" - 603 " "There is no God but God but Mohammed is not his messenger" - 0 results. A clear win for the muslims there. "Buddha was right" - 2640 "Buddha was wrong" - 2400 Ambiguous. Perhaps a zen-like condition. Now, some people may think this a very selective and unscientific way of doing things. So for the next question, I have put in several permutations of the same proposition. The results may cause the Catholic Church some cause for concern. "Jesus was gay" 14300 hits "Jesus was homosexual" 797 "Jesus loved men" 280 "Jesus loved c**k" 237 Total: 15614 "Jesus was not gay" - 3380 "Jesus was straight" - 478 "Jesus was heterosexual" 144 "Jesus loved women" - 214 "Jesus loved minge" - 0 (fairly decisive there) Total: 4216 One day, all research will be done like this.
