the military checks on a soldiers room, weight, clothes and so on...all that matters obviously very much and if its not proper they will get in trouble.i was wondering how come they take the time to do all that but when there is obvious adultery going on and everybody knows about it, nothing is being done.

@frichalf: my point exactly. but sadly enough i know a couple of cases where they brought their girlfriends to work and it was tolerated and out in the open.

It has to be reported through official channels. My ex was given a general discharge for adultery so it is taken seriously.

Adultery in the military is very hard to charge somebody with because you either need to find a lot of people willing to sign sworn statements attesting to actually seeing a "married person" in the act of sex with another person, or the person doing the cheating needs to admit to it (not likely).
It is very easy for married people to cheat on their spouses because they either live off post or in housing where the military does not normally search rooms and do suprise inspections.
In all of the cases I have ever seen of true adultery, the cases were prosecuted and the soldier was either reduced in rank and disciplined or discharged. The military takes this very seriously, but they can only prosecute on facts. Most of the guys in your unit who "know about it" just heard it from another guy and that sort of hearsay wont hold up in court.
Like the guy above me said, many NCO's are in the dark about their soldiers lives and only care about his/her work performance. While I don't think that is the right answer, adultery is not a top priority for an organization who is worried about fighting wars.
The military is not an all knowing, all capable organization. Do you think if a civilian guy got caught cheating on his wife that Mcdonalds would fire him? No. The wife has every right in the world to call his company commander and report a cheating spouse if she wants to. Technically, the wife/spouse is the home police/inspector, not the military.

That depends on where it is happening at, Should it be going on with service members then yea they have some one like you drop a dime on them. Should it be happening out in town with another civilian then as long as that person is discreet about and keeps there business to them self's then no one knows. Look the army has more important things to worry about than if your Husband has a female or a guy on the side. Should they get caught then certain procedures will happen but as far as the adultery police making the rounds get real do they watch what you do when your alone who checks on you?

Its not usually on the radar. As a NCO I don't care if my troop is sleeping with some PX cashier. I want to know he's got all of his gear, he can qualify at the range, pass his common tasks, and will cover my tail. If he is dumb enough to do something to get divorced then that is usually his problem. I don't have time to worry about who he is sleeping with.
Not saying I don't care. Saying I have/had bigger fish to fry. I'm not the mattress Police. I was 11B by the way.

Because combat and stress brings out the basic human urges. Their is no possible way to regulate that unless you want to take away their humanity.
I'm not saying it is right, I'm saying it's human. It is frowned upon in the military but if it doesn't interfere with their duty or they don't use it in any way to gain a unfair advantage it is ignored. That is just the way it is.

I agree with you, enough isnt being done about adultery, there is a case in my platoon right now, but I am working my hardest to ensure that the maximum punishment is going to be done to this NCO. Guys think that just because their spouses may not be around they can go f--- around, well they got another thing coming! All you have to do is make sure their commanders and or First Sergeant know about this.

Because it's practically like being in prison, they aren't getting any, they're constantly under fire, and they could die tomorrow. Sure its morally questionable but it's not like some preaching is gonna stop it.
Also I wouldnt' call it dating so much as gettin a little extra on the side.

As an NCO or Officer it's your responsibility to look out for your troops welfare. Any commander who allows his men to do something which could ruin his private life isn't doing his job right. Should the soldiers wife and kids leave him, do you still think it won't affect his professional life?
Prevention of problems is better than cure.

USAF definately takes it seriously. I was in for 6 years during the first Persian Gulf, and there were several court martials for this. It is against the UCMJ.

I think El Scott would have a different outlook if he was in a combat arms MOS.
In combat, a soldier relies on his fellow soldiers to risk their lives for him, to be absolutely loyal, and to be 100% trustworthy. If a soldier gets married, he generally, (and all you anti religous people can deny it all you want) gets married in a religous ceremony where he/she swears before God, as well as his/her friends and families, that they will remain faithful to their spouse.
Now if someone is willing to break that trust for sex, how the hell are you going to trust them to keep faithful to their buddies when their life is on the line??
Any NCO who says he doesnt care if his soldiers cheat on their spouses is garbage. If you cant live by and enforce the Army Values, then you are meerly stealing your paycheck.
