You can't train a cat! They have too much attitude!

Owning a pet is big responsibility that does involve expenses, like vet bills. Are you sure you prepared for the responsibility?
By trained, do you mean housebroken? Please be aware even cats that have a history of being housebroken may change their behavior in a new environment. Maybe you should do some research on the internet in what all is involved in taking care of a cat just to make sure you are really ready to take on the responsibility.

Go to a SPCA or a No kill organization, usually the price includes shots, spaying and neutering, and I agree, get an older one, not a kitten, everyone wants kittens and not everyone can tolerate them, and then the older ones get euthanized. P.S. We don't train the cats, they train us! Spoken by a true cat-slave.

Any cat from you local humane society will become litter immediatly.....Just leave him/her in a small room so it can find it easily....once it starts using it, it should prefer the litter box to going elsewhere. As for other trainning, I have taught my cats to do things like come, it, and fetch by interacting with them often while they are small, as well as rewarding with treats. MALE CATS ARE MUCH EASIER!!!!

If you mean litter-trained (as opposed to trained to perform tricks) then go to you local animal shelter as that will be your cheapest option. You will have to pay a fee to cover vaccinations etc only. Pedigree kittens from breeders are all litter-trained before they go to new homes but are more expensive. But please be aware that cats can be expensive to care for so if you are on a limited budget please consider carefully if you will be able to provide proper care and attention to your cat when it has health problems.

Cats usually know how to use a litter box if you get them 2 months or older beyond that it's up to you to train them.
