There are 160,000 contractors working in iraq.
About 60% of the contractors are iraqi nationals.
Another 25% are nationals of other countries.
About 20,00 are american nationals.
Generally, the large contractors, whether halliburton, or british firms, sub contract out the majority of the work to smaller contractors.
Most of those contactors are foreign firms.
Most contracts in iraq, are cost plus 1% contracts.
That means the Government pays the actual cost of the work done, Supplies, overhead, salarys, etc, plus 1% in profit.
There are no companies getting rich working in Iraq.
Halliburton, had to spin off KBR, because KBR was losing money in iraq.

They are 1 and the same Company: Halliburton - Kelloggs Brown & Root. The Prime, Major and only Contractor allowed to operate there. They compile, let, manage all contracts covering the entire operations.
Reputedly worth Billions of US $'s The actual figures have never been disclosed!
Ask Cheney the US Vice President. He was Halliburtons Ops man before he accepted being Vice President.
Never fully quit Halliburton - still makes an annual fortune from them! Used / abused his position to ensure the rebuilding of Iraq dropped into Halliburtons waiting hands!

Is pretty large; they build our camps, cook our chow, set up the utilities in the camps, maintain the facilites in the camps and provide security for the supplies that come to and from our FOBs.
Also, they enploy a lot of locals (those brave enough to do risk death and torture at the hands of the insurgents for collaborating with the US) along with TCNs (third country nationals) for the low skill stuff (cleaning toilets, building, driving trucks, etc) while the Americans do the tech stuff (electrical, A/C, communications, etc...).
That leaves military personnel free to do the fighting and to do all the heavy military work that the soldiers are trained to do.
Is kind of like back in the US, where civilians run the chow halls and do building maintenance while soldiers train for combat.

Extremely large... I agree with the person above who said they are something like one-to-one ratio with US military. It's scary.
