It is the flu. Call your doctor for a confirmation if necessary, but it's most likely the just the flu. Yes, it can take several days, because it, as quoted from Wiki, "Flu viruses can remain infectious for about one week at human body temperature".
If you start to experience more severe respiratory issues such as cough, difficulty in breathing, chest pain, then you may have pneumonia.
But it is highly unlikely that your disease is anything other than the flu. Drink plenty of liquids, as my doctor described, "until your urine becomes clear", get lots of rest, and you should be right as rain in no time. There is no medical cure for flu but rest and liquids. The vaccination only blocks SOME strands of flu, not everything.
As a note, take fever reducers as soon as your temperature spikes, because it's usually not the common flu that kills, it's when your brain gets overheated.

You should be at home resting and drinking lots of fluids to get over the flu. If you are not it will make it more complicated or will make it last longer. And by resting I mean in bed watching T.V. for a couple of days. Doing nothing around the house or anywhere else. Your health is more important than anything. Your body is trying to fight it off but it needs your help. If you still don't feel better after doing all of this you should contact your physician.

did you rest in bed since Tuesday? if you didn't, then you should. complete rest. no going out except to go use the john.
drink plenty of liquids and eat plenty of fruits. chicken soup is good, too.
give your body a chance to fight the flu without having to share your energy with other activities.
go to the doctor and ask for a letter to excuse you from work or school. you can't go anyway, unless you plan to spread germs around.

Flu (influenza) will run its course in about 7 days.
Even a common cold takes about seven days to run its course.
Be patient. Take aspirin, drink lots of fluids, get plenty of rest.

FLUE? Isn't that a chimney? What you have is the FLU (INFLUENZA). See a doctor so you don't get a secondary bacterial infection in your nasal passages.

Have you been to a doctor? It may be something other than the flu. Go now and get it confirmed.

Get to the doctor or ER immediately. If it goes on for longer than a couple days, you should always go in - there could be a bad underlying infection.
