I went out to a restaurant and my debit card was stolen somehow when it was being ran for my meal. I called my bank and they canceled the card and are issuing a new one. Is there anything else that I should do? Can you believe the waitress still made me pay for my dinner after my card was stolen in her possession?

It's a credit card and a debit card. What difference does that make? No, I wasn't just out for a free meal...I did give my card to pay, which is how I got into this mess.

The best thing you can do is get in contact with all your credit card companies, credit bureaus and police. It is only safe that the police have a record of this so that when the time comes and if you need to proof of the theft then you can have have a police report.

Ask for an itemized statement from your bank, just to be sure.
report the employee to the management. i have a sneeking
suspicion that this is not the first credit card stolen in her
possession.
when reporting the employee who lost your card, include all details to the manager, and ask the manager for data about
his or her supervisor at the very end of the conversation

Thank god you canceled the card right away. I have a feeling this waitress does this to more people than you. She needs to lose her job. I would contact the manager and explain your situation. Tell her you want action taking against her for losing your card.

Report it immediately and the card will be canceled and you will not be responsible for any charges you did not make although they can hold you responsible for the first $50.00 most do not. Then just wait until you get your new card in the mail and try and be more careful in the future.
Good Luck
PS- Something sounds fishy

I would call the manager who was working that night and file a complaint against the waitress. It is also possible that your card was found and given to the manager.

How was it stolen in her possession?!
That's all you need to do, is call the bank and cancel it.
Oh, if you have any bills tied to it for recurring payments, make sure you change those as well.

You did the right thing - good for you!!! I would have refused to pay for the meal............. you gave her your credit card and she lost it - that's NOT your fault - that's HER fault!!!
I would return to the restaurant and complain to the manager!

You said credit card ,
Then you changed and said debit . . .
Inconsistency suggests you were playing for a free meal ?

did you ask to speak to the manager at that place?? i would have held the girl liable for it.. i would have refused to pay, stating that i did pay and well, i would have gotten the manager over there, any decent manager would have this girls job... she probably stole it and gave it to someone... hope you got it cancelled soon enough...
