I am tired of hearing other people gossip about about friends, family and even strangers. Especially when its hearsay or just half truths. Or even truth that just doesn't need to be spread around. I have seen lots of good people's character destroyed by loose lips. Isn't it time to say hey! Shut up? Usually the people who do this have done far worse than the people that they are talking about.

If more people like yourself stood up and said the buck stops here..the world would be a better place.Gossipers don,t realize when they open their mouths it says more about them than the actual person they are gossipping about.

Well, gossip is like that ... if you break the chain it cannot continue!

While we'll never stop people taking about others (and most of the time it is harmless enough), it is up to every person to put on the brakes when nasty and malicious things are said.

You can confront the gossips directly, and ask where they heard the nasty things they are saying, or you can say something like "Oh really, I heard s/he was a very nice person and very kind to others" (or something similar).

Sometimes people go along with gossip because they fear that if they say anything, they will be the next target of the sharp tongues of others ~ but these gossips only have power if we care what they say.

Whenever you don't go along with them, you also remove any power they have to harm you!

Good on you for your kind hearted thoughts, I hope it works for you :-)

Don't dismiss "young people" as the root of gossip problems. When it comes down to it, if someone tells you some gossip, just keep silent about it and change the subject. You don't need to be preachy to every single person who hypocritically gossips; it's a lost cause.

i hate it when people gossip, its what says about them, not you. People gossip because they're trying to get a rise or reaction out of you and they have no better things to do in life than to run their mouth and talk crap behind someone's back. this girl came up and told me she heard rumors going around about me doing drugs and she asked me if it was true and i told her no, and she is like Oh i knew it, and i was like, who told you that? Obviously she didn't want to answer that and seemed little nervous because i asked her a hard question, which i guess that let her know that i dont take anyones crap,i think she was of course wanting to see my reaction, seeing someone reaction is not always funny, because you dont know who you would offend, i dont gossip and i think its stupid and good way to get yourself in trouble by someone.

Oh, I agree with you totally. Have you noticed that people always want to gossip about bad things too. Never the good stuff. I agree we need to start saying "Hey, that's not nice. I don't want to hear it".

I couldn't agree more. This lady I work with is the queen of gossips, and at this point she has pretty much lost all friends at work, with the exception of new people who don't know any better.

Yeah I'm sometimes like that but alot of times, the gossip can be helpful but most of the time it's not true at all or it just goes into the idk category. No matter what age you are, there's always going to be gossip.

I agree. When I am in the present of gossip, I say, 'should you be saying this when they're not present', that usually shut everyone up.
