Shawny i didn't see this in your answers i don't think but, they best way to gain credit and make sure you're not going into debt is a Secured Credit Card.
Basically its where you put down a certain amount of money and then they give you a credit card for that amount.
lets say you need a $300 dollar credit card.
well you give the bank 300 dollars and then they put it in a secure bank account and then when you purchase something it goes on your credit, you also pay interest and it reports to the credit burrows. If your smart about it do it that way but when you put something on it do it when you have the money to pay it off right then and there, so you don't pay interest and you also build your credit faster.

Another way is, cell phone or small personal loan through the bank.
I hope this helps.

I got my first card at 18 from Jc Penny. It was for a $150 but it started my credit history. If you are in college there are always credit card companies hanging on campus trying to sign you up for your card. You can also google for "bad credit" or "no credit cards". Orchard Bank is the most reasonable. They have small limits and charge monthly fees. However, you have to start somewhere.

If you have a job try to get a ar loan. It's easier to qualify for a car loan than an unsecured credit card. Find a cheap car and save up a grand or so to put down. Otherwise, see if your parents or someone will cosign. That's the quickest way to build credit.

If the debit card is never enough ,
You will be in serious financial trouble in a very short time .
Carrying credit card debt and paying the escalating % charges will leave you broke and could cost you jobs or get you denied for housing .
Learn to live on what you make , and wait on credit cards until you can pay off total balances every month .

It takes time to build a credit history. My daughter is 20 and has recently asked a similar question. Although I have a creadit card I have rarely used it and when I did I paid the balance of every month so there were no charges. If you have bills in your name like a car payment or utilities that will start the process but remember they call it credit 'history' because it is you history. At 18 you simply havent had the time to build it up yet.

My advice is to be responsible, use credit wisely and minimally and keep your bills paid on time.

Get a job, take out a loan for a car, make all your payments and it is established. Or try doing same with a credit card. One method would be to use it on everything you would ordinarily use cash for pay the full amount when bill comes and repeat process, if you can keep this up for 6 months to a year you can have platinum credit before you can drink alcohol.

If you have a close family member in the military go to USAA.com and apply for an account. They are easy to work with.

Another good way is to become joint on a family members loan that has good credit. Turn around and pay it right off and you get instant credit. Try not to get one unless you have the money.
