How long is reception week at before basic training? I'm thinking of joining the National Guard now because of school. I heard from other people that reception week can last anywhere from the moment you arrive to several weeks because of the backup. I know what I would want to do and that is Infantry so which means I'll most likely end up in Fort Benning. I figured about doing BCT and AIT and then coming back in time for college around the first week of September. Is there any possible way to know? I'm guessing I would just get back to school whenever I finish AIT?

Oh yeah, I know there's a program that's known as "College First" which basically requires me to go to AIT following BCT. It's delays any deployment for two years but that's really not the reason; I want to go to my unit as quickly as possible. My friend, I'm planning, if I can, to join his unit. So anyways, thanks for any answers to my question up top.

Reception week at 30th AG (Adjutant General) Battalion, Fort Benning, GA will last about four days. When I was there in 2003, you came in, usually late at night, were issued a canteen and a duffel bag, and sent to sleep for a few hours. In the morning, you had breakfast and got your haircut. Next, you were sent down to get your PT uniform and buy a set of running shoes. After that comes a financial brief, lots of shots (ask for extra pennicillin :) ), and more drawing of stuff to take with you down range. I also had to take a PT test, but as far as I know, you are supposed to do that with your recruiter now, so I don't know if you have to do that still.

Depending on when you go, you may be there longer. CIF (Central Issue Facility) is not open weekends or holidays, so it might take a bit longer.

There is no set time you spend at reception station. If you can't do a minium push-ups and are over weight you will be there awhile. As for making it home by Sept. NOT. Ft Benning is the best place for Basic and AIT.

Reception being bad?? It is an introduction to the two essentials rules of military service, one being " hurry up and wait" and " there are three ways of doing things, the right way, the wrong way and the Army way." Yet it works! There is so much to be done to so many, this is why you wait in line 3 hours for something that takes 5 minutes.. Worst part? Hardly, , we found it " worst boring." It s a "once and done: deal. There is no reception in AIT."

If you enlist as an infantryman, you will go to Ft Benning. You have to go through the ITB, and that's the only one. During reception you'll spend most of the day standing in line at parade rest. Make sure you don't look at the pictures on the walls.

If you go now you might as well kiss this semester of school goodbye. 9-12 weeks of basic,,, AIT is dependent on your MOS. 9 weeks to a year.
