I tried weening my daughter when she was 1 yr but in the middle of the night she would get out of her crib, travel to my room and lift up my shirt. I'd wake up in the morning and there she was. The only way i got her to stop was by struggling with the crying for a lil bit and giving her a sippy cup. It'll happen eventually. I had a friend that put lemon juice on her nipples and that stopped her daughter after three or four times. Good luck.

I was going to stop at 1 year but my son still really needed it. If you feel you are ready and your child is (or you just want to stop regardless of child) then give yourself a couple of weeks to stop. It won't happen overnight! It will also be trumatic on both your body, you mentally, and your child if you stop cold turkey. Keep your bed time routine and add in extra rocking, cuddling, or stories. Verbally say before you nurse that your only going to nurse a little bit tonight and then eventually say, Mommy isnt nursing anymore, all done. While you are transitioning from nursing to not cut back on the amount of time he/she nurses for. Then when the day comes to stop you won't be as hard. You may also want to give your child yogurt, milk before bed routine to help fill up the belly before you send him/her off to sleep. Be pactient it will happen- and the more calm you are about it the less stress you'll go through!

stop breastfeeding right away, give your baby milk in a sippy cup, warm it up a little so it taste better. He/she may cry and refuse sippy cup at first but eventually will get used to

hi
i had experienced the same.....i used to feed her thrice during day time and thrice in the night till she was 13 months.then slowly i stopped nursing her during the day...one feed a week....when i knew she came to me for a feed i would just distract and give her something else to eat...water or milk in sippy cup....it took almost a month to stop day time feed ...(i did feel sorry for her and ended up feeding her )and the night feeds just took weeks...i followed the same i gave her water if she woke up in the night....but be prepared to lose ur sleep for a few nights cause they may not take a bottle or cup for a few weeks if they r not used to one.....it takes time and lots of patience and determination to do this......at times i still feel sorry that i am not feeding her....i do miss those 15 minutes......she is 19 months now......

The child still needs you for nourishment and attention. Perhaps focus a bit more on the childs needs and redirect those needs in other ways.

distraction and redirection - just because you don't want to breastfeed doesn't mean the child's not hungry. Nor does it mean they need less attention.
Try more attention and good distractions, and your child may wean himself.
