I'm getting a tranny flush at the dealership on Monday. They said that they don't put in a new screen/ filter with the flush, because it's not nessesary with the flush which changes 100% of the fluid, compared to a regular tranny fluid change that only changes about a third of the fluid with new fluid. Is this true? Thanks.

It's about like changing your engine oil without changing the filter. Clean oil going through a dirty filter. Bummer. I'd go to a shop that would change both.

NO THAT IS NOT a good practice!! The reason they do this is that a flush can be done without pulling the pan. You DO have contaminate particles on the floor of the pan,,normal,,You do have metallic particles on the internal magnet INSIDE THE PAN and you have junk in the filter now.
DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS!!! Change the filter clean the pan and the magnet!!!
Good Luck

On a vehicle of that age and mileage I would just get the transmission fluid changed. Usually what happens when you let them talk you into a flush it's nothing but trouble, because all of that worn clutch packs and worn bands tend to really slip. Good luck!

Under normal operating condition, the screen on the filter will last about 100k, so it's ok to flush the trans.fluid w/o replacing the filter, heat will damage the trans. not the filter... if the trans. are work correctly, there should not be any "metals" inside the pan..my Jeep has 200k and I "flush" the trans. every 50k....

In about a week all of that gunk that didn't flush out will be loosened up enough to cause problems. You'll be wondering why you are no longer shifting from 2nd to 3rd, for example. Been there, spent that.
