Etymology and origins
S'more appears to be a contraction of the phrase, "some more". The informal nature of this term reflects the environment in which s'mores are traditionally served. Some have jokingly surmised that the name originated from people who were so busy eating the tasty treat that they did not have time to speak in complete sentences, or alternately, that their enunciation was compromised by the fact that their mouth was still full of the heretofore mentioned s'more.
While the origin of this popular campfire dessert is unclear, the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the Girl Scout Handbook of 1927.

The S'more was invented by a Wisconsin rancher, Darryl S. More when, one day he was building a campfire whilst minding the cattle. He had with him several bits of food to last him while away from his ranch home: a few fish, crackers, barbecue sauce, marshmallows, peanut butter, bread, potato chips, chocolate, carrots and a wee bit of soy sauce. As he was about to prepare his meal for the evening, the cows became restless and were fussing about. Darryl needed to eat quickly and get out to see what was the matter. So he put together the barbecue sauce the carrots and the fish - he discovered this did not taste very good, but he ate it up as the cows needed tending. The next night, same situation, only he threw together the peanut butter, soy sauce and potato chips - again he was disappointed. But on the third night of needing to speed up his meal, he put together the chocolate, crackers and marshmallows - and it was delicious. Fortunately, he told his neighbors about this serendipitous discovery and they passed it on to all people. In honor of Darryl, they called this creation: S'mores

If you camp, you know all about s'mores. These warm satisfying energy-packed chocolate treats are ubiquitious.
Who invented the first s'more?
No one knows. We do know the three primary ingredients (graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars) were readily available to the American public by the late 19th century and very popular in the early 20th.

I don't know, but I had my first S'more on a Girl Scout camping trip when I was ten in 1955. They were the greatest. Still are.
