but so many people have different views of it. How does anyone have the right to claim that they are right and everyone else is wrong? And WHY would you curse those that don't believe? Do you not think that everyone's intitled to their own thoughts and opinions?

There were two people who said, "why does your personal opinion matter when you can have Jesus RULE your life"...they didn't say that exactly but that's an example of WHY I asked my question.

Jess : You mentioned that "We are not supposed to point fingers at other religions AS LONG AS they are living for God to the best of their ability"....how did you answer my question? You didn't.

No-one has all of the answers, though it would be lovely if everyone could respect the beliefs and opinions of all others - would certainly cut the holy-wars to a minimum *sigh*
People fear what they do not understand, thus they curse and rage against belief systems that they assume are evil or wrong simply because they're different - which is a shame. Paganism, as an example, is nothing like it is portrayed in the media, however there are folks of other belief systems who continually claim that Pagans/Wiccans are "devil worshippers" when to be honest, most Pagans and ALL Wiccans don't even believe in the devil. *shrugs* Do they believe there's evil in the world? In one form or another, probably, but you'd have to ask the individual to find out their thoughts on that........doesn't mean they worship that or ARE that - they simply acknowledge that it's there, much like how most Christians in the world acknowledge that there is evil in the world and/or the devil.........does that make it true? Nope. None of it does. Still, respect is a lovely word and could go a long way towards healing some very bloody rifts between belief systems and the people who hold them dear. Why is a great question, "I wish I knew" is my answer. I believe fear is the key to it, but who am I to say for sure?

I think your assumption of the question is the problem. You claim "there's a god". That is contested by at least 1/3 of the world. (check the graph, first link)
Secondly, of those who believe in dieties. Why so many different versions you ask? Some believe in 1 omniscient god, others believe in polytheism (many gods who have individual areas of expertise).
Different regions of the world came up with their ideas for explaining their origins/history/beliefs.
Some people think that it's kind of unique how some religions have a central kind of theme like the 40 days deal. The Jesus walked for 40 days in the desert. The Buddha sat for 40 days under a tree. The Ramadan is about roughly 40 days. Perhaps when the translating of religions came about, different people translated different things and since they weren't perfect, used some editorial license to publish their own versions.

People get defensive of their religion because they see other peoples religions as a threat to their own, and to their culture. their culture is generally linked with their religion, so any threat on their religion, is a threat to their way of life. it may not sound like the most rational thing, but its the truth. people fight over religion, because they each think they are correct. they see eachother as threats, when they are in fact, both threatening eachother. so it comes to a stalemate, and then the fighting occurs. and its been happening since the time of man.
and i agree with your statement, everyone is intitled to their own thoughts and opinions. i am an atheist, and i get so much crap for it. even if its not directed to me, i find out about it. it makes me sick. i respect anyone's religion, or anyone's opinion. it doesnt mean i have to agree with it, i respect it. when people lack the respect for one another, they go ahead and talk bad about their opinions or them as a person. they tend to lose respect for someone because of differences in opinions, which totally defeats the purpose for ever having respect for anyone, if it will disappear when they don't agree on something.
i hope i helped :/
and i back everything you said, or questioned.

I do think everyone is entitled to their own thoughts, beliefs and opinions. I don't have the right to force my opinions on someone else, even though I might share what I believe with them and will of course listen to what they believe as well. I don't have the right to judge them or their beliefs. What they believe is not for me to judge. I think too many people think they should judge others when it's really between them and their God.

You are right! Having a book and a costume doesn't mean anyone knows more than anyone else, especially since there are a lot of books and costumes.
I'm thinking of starting a religion called "YOU FIGURE IT OUT!" It would make the basic beliefs of every religion available to the members and they could see what seems right to them. Costumes are optional.

No better answers. People come on here to sell things, not think openly.
I think a little humility goes a long way. What do I know of God for sure? Not much. Just trying to do the best I can.

everyone is on their own path and level of awareness. We are all suppose to find our own truths for this life. Judging others is wrong, why do we do it? why do some of the most churchy people seem to do it the most? could it be that the "fallen one" has snuck into some churches and makes people think it is ok , even a duty to judge others?

Yes everyone is given free will. Jesus stated it very clearly that no one comes to the Father except by Him. As a Christian it is my duty to at least speak the truth in love so that all may be saved for God does not want any to be lost. There is no need to curse those who chose not to believe since they curse themselves.

There are many Hippocrates that believe they are the only ones that have a clue to what a higher being wants from the human race. religion is responsible for all the strife on this planet. plain and simple.

Thank you. I was about to get out of this section completely because of that very thing. No one can PROVE that their way is the only way. By damning those that don't believe to hell, believers are sinning and going against their own god.
