He was neutered on Wednesday. I thought that everything was going alright, I have him in a cone because he just wouldnt leave the wound alone without it. yesterday it looked like things were healing up nicely. I went to work today, and when I got home there was a little bit of blood on the cone, and it was clear that he had irritated the wound. Its not swollen, or bleeding but it looks like a fresh wound, and its pink in color. It seems he's found a way to manuveur his body even with the cone to lick the area. What can I do? I have him wearing a little towel right now taped around his nether regions, but I know that in about 10 minutes he will have that ripped off. Help!!

does the cone fit right? maybe it's slipping down the neck too far and so he can still get to the incision. call your vet and see if they can fit him for a bigger cone, or some petstores sell these cones and you can get a bigger one there. make sure it fits snug and he can't get it off over his head or that it doesn't slip down his neck far enough so he can get to the incision. persistent aren't they? good luck, and just keep an eye on him the best you can.

I understand your dilemma and I now agree that b1ches should have one or even more seasons before they are spayed. Is is possible to get a friend to look after the male until your ***** is no longer attracting him? Or could you pay a dog walker to give him several long walks every day to give both him and you some respite? If your male was castrated he would be less interested, however I am told that this takes a while before it takes effect. There is a spray which you can use for b1tches in season, however because your boy is now looking for the delights of having a ***** ready and waiting this might not work. I must admit that this would do my head in. Phone your vet now and ask for help.

There are sour sprays like "Bitter Apple Taste Deterrent For Dogs" you can get at Petsmart that will stop your dog from licking it, but you have to clean it first. And get a new bigger cone. If gets worst then take your dog back to the vet.

If they wound has been reopened you should take him back to the vet so you can prevent infections. Other than that you might try to get a bigger cone so he can't get around it

Call the vet and explain. Maybe you can get a different cone.

do not put bitter apple on him, it has alcohol in it, ouch...
maybe a better fitting cone or the stiff neck collar which doesn't bump things, but prevents their neck from turning around and getting at their back ends...

First maybe get some dog hydrocortizone. If that doesn't work talk to a vet.
