maybe something that was mind altering like marijuana .. it could have been anything but i do think it was some type of plant ..

I think the fruit from the 'tree of knowledge' of good and evil they were forbidden to eat represents something else. Eve was deceived by Satan and Adam went along with her. What and how they really sinned is not mentioned, but whatever it was they broke God's law. Symbolically by eating from the 'tree of life' would mean they could have continued living indefinitely. Revelation 22 speaks in similar language which tells of the 'trees for curing of the nations.'

The forbidden fruit was from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, specifically an apple that Eve had eaten.

The fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
For sometime it was thought to be the apple. I even heard that it was thought to be the tomato (would be semi logical, in spite of it not growing on a tree, since the tomato was thought to be poison for a very long time).
There is some thought, also, that it is the pomegranate.

Pomegranite. It is claimed to be an apple because everyone can relate to an apple. But honestly, it doesn't really matter. It's not a heaven or hell issue.

Some people believe that it was the pomegranate, however it is often depicted as the apple.

They never really identify it.
But in every illustration I've seen, it kind've looked like a persimmon...

It was a mushroom tree.
They had an awesome time in the garden after that. That's why they kept hearing all those voices!
