cards i got: the empress, the tower, death, umm i really cant remember the other two...
well he said that i needed to make a change withing myself that only i have the power to do..my soul is telling me all these changes must come out..there are hidden secrets that lie beyond my intial thoughts that must come out before the changes are made, and if the change comes in a drastic enough way that i can finally love and be loved by the person i desire the most...

sounds like the typical reading that they give everybody when they have no clue to what they are doing.

empress in short = nurturing, mother-energy, caring for others and also for yourself so that you CAN care for others - think of it this way: If you aren't 100%, you'll be no good to anyone. THe tower is upheaval, disruption, simply put.....and death is one thing and one thing only....ready for this? CHANGE. That's it and that's all, it does not mean you're going to die, it means you are going to go through some pretty major changes - but that they'll be YOUR CHOICE.....shocker, eh? Probably already knew that, though, didn't you? Tarot does one thing: Tells you what you already knew, just likely needed to be swatted over the head with a "psychic 2X4" and even sometimes THAT doesn't get the message through - I can't tell you anything else about your reading since you can't remember the other cards, chances are you flipped out the instant you saw the death card, try not to - it does NOT mean you're going to die - and those telling you you're going to hell because you saw a tarot reader are high - God/Goddess gave us many tools for Questing spiritually....INCLUDING Tarot. The reading does NOT seems "cold." The Death & Tower cards are about change. I would venture a guess & say one of the other cards was the Hight Priestess.
The other cards sounds as if it were the 8 of Wands.

Depending on what kind of layout the reader used and what the other 2 cards were I would say that it is correct. Maybe not quite as intense as the reader made it out to be but the general idea is right. There are changes within yourself that will happen whether you want them to or not and they are things that you need to let go of. That all I can get form what little I know of the reading.

I think you sort of answered your own question. I don't know anything about a "heart's desire" spread, seeing as I've found the tree of life spread to be the most effective. Now the Tower and Death... those aren't the most optimistic cards, but something tells me that you're going to refrain from something (no idea what) and that will help you a lot. But that's just my interpretation. Readings are very personal and vary from reader to reader.

Depending on the reader, tarot readings are suppose to be used for suggestions of how your life can go, depending on what actions you take. It is a guide-line, not in any way to be taken as literally. That is why most use a disclaimer that readings are to be done for fun and not to be taken seriously. Like runes, it is used for self exploration and to make suggestions. There are many variables to be taken into consideration. Many choices that can change the final outcome of the reading. In the end, you have to be the one to make the final decisions and choices. You are the one who is responsible for your destiny, not the cards themselves.

I suggest you try Vedic astrology for specific answers, as there is nothing more authentic than a 'horoscope', which infact is your karmic history. In todays times, we need more than just general guidance, so try some good astrology site. I am sure you will get hooked on and realize the connection between the known and the unknown. There is a thing about fortune telling, tarots and what not. Most of it is vague and involves cold reading. In short, what he seen is what you told him and he read on your face.
Not to mention the cards are like those ink blot psychiatrists use to determine your subconscious. Same idea, different method.
