Are you sure it actually has a shorted circuit? There's a number of things that can happen with circuits, a resistance circuit that has a dead short (no resistance to electrical flow) or has too much resistance (will not flow electricy). When such a sensor fails you're likely to be running a rich mixture. If you're having problems, make sure all electical connections are clean and there's no vacume leaks. The main computer module will either run fine, switch to a default (limp home) mode with the check engine light on or be totally dead and it won't fire at all.

anything is contestable, but I've never seen a MAF short out period...
