It's not an awaking. That signifies someone waking up. Becoming an exs-atheist is more like going back to sleep.

I find it difficult to believe that one can go from atheist to theist for no other reason than there is absolutely no evidence, new or otherwise, to support belief in InvisibleSkyThingies.
The only reason I can think of is that some sort of event caused a great deal of Paranoia and or Fear and Pascal's Wager went into gear.
Asker, atheism is a freedom you may never know - no longer shackled to Bronze Age myths and superstitions; no longer needing someone to thank or blame for your own good or bad fortune - atheism is the awakening.

I can easily imagine it seeming like an awakening. Atheists embrace reality, which can be quite frightening. Reality is not always pretty or kind, and some people find that they just can't handle it and scramble to surround themselves with the comforting blanket of religion. Suddenly you have an invisible friend looking over your shoulder, someone to whom you can pray in times of distress, even though you never receive a response. Praying to a supernatural being makes you feel less helpless against life's slings and arrows. Suddenly you have comforting rituals to occupy your time, the fellowship of other believers, and the pleasure of belonging to the majority.

faith = the higher the fear thats applied on you , the stronger the faith. faith is back by nothing but assumptions and more faith. thus if you grew out of your fear , you lose faith and eventually for some , they become atheist.
atheist = back up by science , science stays there , its not like if you have a bad day , then the sun rotate around earth instead. no , doesnt work this way , you like it or not , earth still rotate around sun . unless atheist submit to fear , it will stay that way

A lot of people "find" religion when they really need it! As has been said , hiding from reality is a much better alternative to the weak who cant face it!!!

I used to be an atheist, but I came to believe in Christ. I would have to say that becoming a Christian is quite an awakening. Not an awakening from within, but an awakening from Christ.

I don't really know as I am still an atheist, but I suspect a complete frontal lobe lobotomy would be the closest parallel.

I have a hard time believing any Atheist ever would regress back to any religion. Once you know, you know.

Since you were born atheist - you tell me - did you get amnesia and forget how to think for yourself?
